Award Winning Family Photographer | From Maternity & Babies to Seniors & Underwater Space Coast - Brevard County FL Fernandina Beach High School Senior | Amelia Island Senior PhotographyWhen I found out this young man was a lifeguard and loves to surf, I knew we had to head to the beach for some fun for the second half of his session. I love incorporating something meaningful for all sessions, and especially for senior sessions. We need more than just good looking photos to remember what they looked like before setting off into adulthood and the real world. We need photos that represent who they are and what they love! We started with some urban portraits and made sure to include his love of football. Then we headed to the beach to capture him in his lifeguard role and some fun in the water with his surf board. The water was super choppy so there wasn't much to catch that day, but we still had fun with it!

The Importance of Grandparents Existing in PhotosThe first Sunday in September is Grandparents Day, so I thought this would be the perfect time for a blog post reminding us of the importance of grandparents existing in photographs. It's not as common to see grandparents getting in front of the camera with their grandkids, especially for professional photo sessions. Though it's possible they may exist is photos on your phone, are we printing those to enjoy and cherish? And when, one day, they're gone, photographs are all we will have left to help us remember them. My grandparents had all passed by the time I graduated high school and I don't have many photographs with them; just a few from when I was younger. I don't live by my parents or my in-laws, so when we have them around, I try to be more conscious of taking photos of them with my son; and then print them. I've also included some of the grandparents in one of our professional photo sessions that they happened to be with us for. I know he will cherish those photographs and the memories they incite, just as his grandparents now enjoy the photographs they have with him. One of my favorite things about extended family sessions is capturing the grandparents with just the grandkids and a single set of grandparents are always welcome to join in a regular family session at no additional cost. I've even done a couple that specifically focused on the grandparents and the kids. Grandparents have the reputation for being extra fun (hey, they aren't the parents) and it's so fun to capture that playfulness! Whether you encourage grandparents to be in your next photo session with a professional photographer, or you just take your own candid photos, make it a priority to get them in the frame and then make sure to print the photos!

Small Business Spotlight: Coach Judy | NE Florida Small Business Branding Photography
I'd like to introduce you all to Coach Judy, a health and happiness coach. She's a warm, kind, giving, helpful, positive soul and I'm grateful to have met her! If you want to change the stories you tell yourself or live a happier, healthier life, I highly recommend calling her to chat about her services (you don't have to be local either)! I'm going to let Judy tell you all more about herself and her business...
Tell us about your business. What services/products do you offer? I help smart successful women feel better, more confident and learn how to let go of the shitshow going on in their head so she can stop critical self judgement and go after their dreams.
What inspired you to open your business? I became a certified health coach back in 2013 after I spent years sick with autoimmune colitis, leaky gut, chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, perfectionism, people pleasing and an eating disorder. I struggled to find answers but eventually I reclaimed my mental and physical health and decided that, if I was challenged to recover my health as a nurse and diabetes educator for over 20 years, then it was way more difficult for the average person, so I wanted to offer up what worked for me. Then, after working with clients and continuing to work on my own mind, my thoughts, emotions, stories and beliefs, and overall well-being, I knew that I wanted to also support women in all areas of their life. That disease was actually dis-ease! It was then I decided that I help women feel better about themselves, about their life, and about their own empowerment to transform their life.
What is your biggest success with your business to date? What are you most proud of?
Do you have a memorable moment in your business that you can share with us?
What can your clients expect from you when they book with you?
Tell us three things about you that we might not know. I love anything aquatic especially stand up paddle boarding.
Is there anything else you’d like to share? I feel so happy and grateful for my family and the wonderful things that have happened in my life, but I now I can really appreciate all the challenges and dark night of the soul experiences that have helped me to grow, to heal and to be able to do this work so others can too.
Where can people find you?

Amelia Island Sunset Beach Maternity Photography | Award Winning Maternity PhotographerThis couple could not get any cuter. To celebrate expecting their first baby (a boy!), they wanted a maternity session on the beach at sunset. They had done their engagement photos at the pier in Fernandina Beach so we went back there for this next milestone. You can see the love they have for each other and their excitement to welcome this baby boy into the world soon! They brought along their new puppy for a few photos too. After all, they will be growing up together! We got a little wet and had a lot of fun. The rain held out for us as it literally started drizzling when we began heading back to the parking lot and we still had beautiful sunset colors over the ocean. I took a couple video clips during the session as well so I put them together with their favorites for the video below and have included the images to scroll through as well.
Thank you for allowing me to capture these for you Mr. & Mrs. M! I can't wait to meet baby soon! <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Are you expecting? Extended Family Vacation Photography | St Marys - Amelia Island Family PhotographerWhen the members of your family live all around the country (and one internationally) and you are able to get everyone in one place at the same time, there's no better time to hire a photographer to capture your togetherness! The weekend of this session was rainy but we managed to squeeze in this session between rain storms. This family was a blast, especially these four awesome kids! They laughed at my silliness and made silly faces back at me too! One of my favorite parts of an extended family session is getting a photo of grandparents with their grandkids. The kids loved tickling Grandpa! The best way to have a successful session with a lot of people, and any session with young kids, is for everyone to be relaxed and go with the flow. The kids get breaks whenever they need them and we turn everything into a game. Be silly and have fun and let me capture your happy memories! This family did exactly that and now have great images that they'll have to remember their time together. Here are a few favorites!
A few words from them about their experience: "Kimberly did a wonderful job capturing our family craziness! She was very patient - with 4 grandchildren under the age of 10, one needs a lot of it! She made it seem effortless. The pictures show her love of her craft. Thanks, Kimberly!" Thank you for trusting me to capture these precious memories for you all! <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Looking to capture your family as they are right now? Baby Milestone Session with Family - Baby's First Year | St Marys GA Baby PhotographerBaby B is back on the blog for his mid-year baby milestone session! He and his brother have such a close bond and it was so much fun to capture them together, whether giggling and laughing or big brother reading Baby B a book. You can see how much they love each other! And it doesn't stop there, because you could just feel the love throughout this whole session with the whole family. This is what I love to capture, these moments of connection and love that families share. Since this was also a milestone session, the focus was on Baby B while still including the rest of the family. They grow so fast in the first year and I love getting to watch them grow and help capture this time that seems to fly by in a blur. I loved so many of these in black and white too, so I've included a mix. From giggles with brother, to drooly smiles, to a nursing break, and flying in the air with Daddy, here are some favorites from Baby B's session!
Thank you W family for trusting me to capture these moments for you to treasure! <3 Kim Owner/Artist-Photographer Kimberly Tank Art & Photography I only take on a limited number of Baby Plan Memberships for each calendar year to ensure the highest quality of service to all of my clients and priority booking for plan members. Mother's Day has passed and it's time to start thinking about Father's Day. I've put together a list of ideas in case you are scratching your head this year. (Thankfully I came up with a great idea for my hubby earlier this year so all we have left is a craft/card from my son!) For these, I've tried to separate by what Dad might enjoy doing and have tried to include links for local places to go when possible.
For the Dad who likes to fish...
Fishing Rods - Last year, I bought fishing rods for my husband and my son, as well as some basic fishing supplies to get them started, and gave them to him for Father's Day so they could go fishing together. They've been doing this a good bit lately and really enjoy the time together. I loved fishing with my dad when I was a kid (though part of it was getting hot chocolate and fresh donuts on our way to the lake haha!) Fishing Charter - If Dad already has a great fishing rod, you could book him a fishing charter. Two local places with great ratings (though I have no personal experience with them) are Angler Outfitters & Charter Fishing (where you could also grab some new fishing goodies for Dad) and Amelia Island Charter Fishing.
For the Dad who likes baseball...
Tickets to a Baseball Game - This is what I opted for this year. My husband is a huge Chicago Cubs fan and I had the perfect opportunity to get us all tickets to see a game this summer. We like to do experiences for gifts when we can, and being able to watch a Cubs game with his family is going to be so much fun! If you can't travel for your hubby's favorite team, you could always go see The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Dad can still share his love of baseball with his kiddos. Some of my favorite memories with my Dad when I was a kid was going to see the Cleveland Indians games.
For the Dad who likes tools/woodworking...
Gift Card - I know, this one doesn't feel as personal. But let's face it, when it comes to tools, it's better for them to pick it out unless they've circled several options for you in a catalog or made a wish list online. (It's like if my husband tried buying me something photography related without me giving him a very specific list of options with links to the items... he's likely to get something wrong, haha!) Class/Workshop - Sign Dad up for a class or workshop to learn a new skill. For the woodworkers, Woodcraft of Jacksonville has classes regularly that would make a great gift. (They have other locations if you aren't local to Jacksonville.) Magazine Subscription - This is another good option for Dads who might want to learn more or get different ideas for projects.
For all Dads...
Food - Let's face it, guys love food! From a nice big breakfast to a well planned dinner with Dad's favorite foods, don't forget this one on Father's Day. Homemade Crafts from the Kid(s) - Handmade gifts were always a big hit with my dad. Whether you do a big craft or just a homemade card, here's a list to get you started if you don't want to spend forever on Pinterest (like I did looking for a decent list to share haha!). It's a great way to get the kids involved, especially when they're little. Photographs - Of course this list would not be complete (or on my blog!) without including photos! And this doesn't need to be a professional session with Dad. You could take some photos of Dad with the kids yourself and then print them out and put them in a frame. (If you want to know how to do this better, sign up for my email list for your free guide to taking better photos or check out my camera class!) If you prefer not to DIY, you could book a session for just you and the kids so you can give him a great photo to keep on his desk at work (and you'll have great photos with your kiddos too!).
What will you do for Dad this year? Drop me a comment and let me know!
