Double the Love: In-Home Newborn Session with Twins and Their Big Brother
Lifestyle Newborn Photographer | Space Coast FL
When you're adjusting to life with twin newborns and a toddler, there's no better place for a session than the comfort of your own home. You don’t need worry about cleaning the whole house—just tidy up one or two spaces that get the best light. For this twin newborn session, we stuck to the living room and the nursery. For your family, it could be the master bedroom and we can pile everyone onto the bed.
Individual Newborn Portraits
For solo newborn photos, I just need a well-lit space on the floor where I can set up fabrics over a baby cushion so get some simple, sweet shots of baby, or in thus case, babies! I also love incorporating something personal, like a favorite swaddle blanket. For these sweet twins, we coordinated solid color wraps for them and used swaddle blankets for the background fabric, changing it up a bit from the usual solid background with a cherished swaddle blanket on baby. Then, when we put the twins together, we used a solid color fabric for the background and wrapped them in their swaddle blankets.

Bringing in the Older Sibling(s) and Capturing the Whole Family
Then it was time to bring in big brother! When working with toddler siblings, we try to let them lead the way and work with what they are willing to do. Forcing them to do something they don't want to do won't result in a good image. Their whole world has changed, so I expect there could be resistance and work around it. Toddlers often need breaks, as do the babies, which is why I allot extra time for newborn sessions.

Nursery Photos with Mom & Dad
I love to incorporate the nursery into part of the session whenever possible. As moms, we often spend a good deal of time and energy putting together and decorating the nursery so why not showcase it a bit in your newborn's photos! When working with toddler siblings, I usually try to get shots with the toddler done in the first portion of the session (if they're ready), so we spent the second part of this twin newborn session in the nursery with just Mom and Dad with the babies. Even if the room doesn't get a lot of natural light, as long as we have a good window, we can get some sweet shots in the nursery. We'll just stay closer to the window and I can bounce a little extra light while still keeping it looking natural if needed.

Celebrating One Year of Baby & Parenthood | Baby Milestone Session on the Indian River
There’s something extra special about a baby’s first birthday. Yes, it’s about the milestone—the tiny toes that now toddle, the smiles that have grown into giggles, and the little personality that’s starting to shine. But it’s also about the parents. One whole year of loving, growing, learning, and, let’s be honest—surviving. That first year is a whirlwind, and reaching the one-year mark deserves to be celebrated for the whole family.
For this sweet session, I had the joy of photographing a one-year-old milestone at the family’s beautiful home along the Indian River. We started our morning out on their dock, bathed in soft sunlight and surrounded by water views. It was the perfect peaceful backdrop for captured moments of this little boy on his own, with mom and dad, and the sweetest generational photo with his grandparents.

After we wrapped up outside, we headed indoors where the light streamed through their big windows, giving us a bright space for playtime photos. There’s nothing quite like photographing little ones in their own environment—where they’re comfortable, curious, and completely themselves.

Photographing at home makes these sessions feel intimate and real. It's not about props or perfect poses—it’s about connection, celebration, and capturing a slice of everyday life during a fleeting season. If you’ve made it through the first year, you deserve to remember it—mess, magic, and all.
Ready to celebrate your own family milestone? Let's tell your story—right where it happens.

Two Moms, Four Boys, and a Whole Lot of Joy
Master Family Photographer | Central Florida
I had the joy (and workout!) of photographing a truly special family—two wonderful moms and their four boys under the age of five. That’s right: one adventurous 4-year-old and a lively trio of 2-year-old triplets. If you’re already picturing a high-energy, giggle-filled session with a little chaos sprinkled in—you’re absolutely right.
Photographing toddlers, especially multiple at once, can be a bit like herding cats. They’re curious, fast, and absolutely uninterested in sitting still just because a grown-up with a camera asks them to. But here’s the magic: with the right mindset (and some play-based photography tricks), sessions like this become more than just a challenge—they become something really beautiful.
The moms came into the session with two clear goals:
-
Capture at least one photo of the entire family together, and
-
Get individual portraits of each kiddo that they could print and hang at home.
Having those goals helped shape the flow of the session. When you’re working with young children, especially toddlers, it’s so helpful to have a few key priorities in mind and to stay flexible beyond that. At this age, embracing the chaos is part of the process. We played games, sang songs, raced through open fields, and found moments of stillness between all the motion.
The result? We got that family photo. We captured the energy and silly grins of each boy in their own little moment. And most importantly, we documented this whirlwind chapter in the life of a family that clearly loves big and laughs often.

One quick tip for families planning a session like this: while it can be tempting to bring extra adults to help, more grown-ups usually just mean more distractions for the kids. The best sessions tend to happen when only the people being photographed are present. Kids respond best when their attention is focused—and a familiar face (or three) off to the side can often pull them out of the moment.
If you're preparing for a session with little ones, remember: it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. Come ready to play, let go of the idea of “perfect poses,” and trust that we’ll find the magic in the movement.

Family Photo Session in the Park with a Toddler
Central Florida Family Photographer
Capturing family photos with a toddler can feel like a whirlwind of chaos, but with the right mindset and a little creativity, it can be one of the most fun and memorable experiences. The secret to photographing with a toddler is simple: play lots of games and accept that they’re going to want to run around.
If you’re preparing for a family photo session, especially with a toddler in tow, you’ll want to embrace the spontaneity and joy that comes with their age. Here’s how you can make the most of the session.
1. Let Them Lead the Way
Toddlers are full of energy and curiosity, and the best way to capture their true personality is by letting them explore the world around them. Instead of trying to get them to sit still or pose, allow them to roam and engage with their surroundings. Whether it’s running, playing, or even just looking at the world from their level, these natural moments will result in the most authentic, heartfelt photos.
Toddlers don’t always follow a plan, and that’s part of the magic! So, take a deep breath, embrace the chaos, and trust that the best photos will come when they’re comfortable and allowed to be themselves.

2. The Power of Playful Games
One of the easiest ways to capture the joy of a toddler (and most kids under 12) is by incorporating playful games into the session. Kids love to play, and a game can engage them and bring out their brightest smiles. Here are some games we might play:
- Chase Me!
Toddlers love running, and a simple game of “chase” can lead to some wonderfully candid photos. Parents can take turns “chasing” their toddler, or siblings can chase each other, whether it’s running in circles or racing down a path. The excitement on their face will make for adorable pictures.
- Tossing Leaves or Capturing Bubbles
A fun, low-effort game like tossing leaves in the air or catching bubbles can keep toddlers and kids entertained while providing great photo opportunities. Watch as they react with excitement to catching or watching them fall.
- Swinging Game
One of the most enjoyable games for toddlers and parents alike is the simple act of swinging. Parents hold the toddler’s hands while walking together and gently swing them forward every few steps. The laughter and smiles from this activity carry over to the in between moments when everyone is walking together and we can often capture a great photo full of smiles while everyone's feet are on the ground too. The energy and joy from this playful interaction always result in genuine, heartfelt shots.

3. Candid Moments Over Posed Shots
While posed shots have their place, the beauty of photographing toddlers lies in capturing those raw, candid moments. Kids this age don’t always want to sit still or look at the camera, and that’s okay! Instead, focus on letting them be themselves, whether they’re running, exploring, or sharing a quiet moment.
Don’t stress about perfect poses—some of the most memorable images come from the toddler’s unpredictable behavior. The genuine laughter as they play or the wonder in their eyes as they explore is exactly what makes family photos at this age so special.

4. Patience Is Key
When dealing with a toddler, patience is your best friend. They might need to take breaks, go off in their own direction, or refuse to cooperate altogether. It’s important to let go of the expectation for everything to go perfectly. Toddlers are unpredictable, and having the patience to allow their personality to shine through will give us photos you'll cherish.

5. Interaction Between Parents and Toddlers
One of the most special things about family photos is the connection between the parents and their child. For toddlers, interactions that feel natural are key to capturing real moments. Engage with your child in ways that make them feel loved and happy—this could be playful tickling, a hug, or simply walking hand-in-hand. Don't forget to play!

6. Quiet Moments
While action shots are fantastic for capturing your toddler’s energy, we'll also include a few quieter moments in the session as well. After all the running and playing, you may find that your toddler wants to take a break and enjoy the surroundings. A serene moment of them sitting in the grass, looking up at the trees, or snuggling with a parent can add a beautiful contrast to the high-energy shots.
These quieter moments offer a peaceful balance to the session, and they highlight the tenderness and love within the family. So, make sure to pause for a few moments and let your toddler relax and simply enjoy the environment around them.

Family Photos with a Toddler Copyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography
Family photo sessions with a toddler don't need to be stressful, and they don't have to involve perfectly posed shots. Instead, let your toddler’s personality take center stage. Embrace their energy, play games, and cherish the quiet moments. The best family photos are the ones that capture your unique bond, whether you’re running through a field, swinging together, or sharing a quiet laugh.
Remember: **play lots of games and accept that they’re going to want to run around**. The best memories—and the best photos—will come when you allow your toddler to be themselves, and when you join in the fun too!

Fine Art Underwater Maternity Photos: A Stunning Journey Captured Underwater
Orlando Underwater Photographer
Pregnancy is such a magical and fleeting time in a woman’s life, and what better way to capture that beauty than through fine art underwater maternity photos? As an Orlando underwater photographer, I specialize in creating artistic portraits that celebrate this transformative chapter. I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful mom-to-be expecting a baby boy. From flowing blue fabrics to a gorgeous Cinderella-esque gown, her underwater maternity session turned into a dreamy, award-winning experience.
The Art of Underwater Photography
Underwater maternity photography is not just about taking pictures; it's about creating timeless, artistic imagery. The unique combination of water, light, and fabric creates a sense of ethereal beauty, turning each image into a work of art. The softness of the water and the graceful movement of the fabrics evoke a dreamy quality that simply can't be captured in traditional maternity photos. Every detail—from the flow of the dress to the peaceful serenity or even the bubbles of the underwater environment—becomes part of the artwork.
Award-Winning Images
Two of the images from this underwater maternity session won awards in the NAPCP (National Association of Professional Child Photographers) professional image competitions. It’s always a huge honor to have my work recognized, but what makes these images even more special is the story they tell—about a mother and her unborn son, captured in a moment of beauty and grace that will last forever.
These award-winning photos are a perfect example of how fine art underwater photography can tell a story and create something truly unique. It’s not just about the gown or the fabrics, but about the connection, emotion, and beauty that are captured in each frame.

Sunrise Baby Milestone Session at the Beach
Cocoa Beach Baby Photographer
There’s something about that first year of a baby’s life, when they are growing so fast, that makes every milestone feel extra special. For this sweet family, we captured their baby boy’s 6-month milestone with a sunrise photo session at the beach. It was a beautiful morning, filled with sunshine, smiles, and a little bit of sand-tasting fun. We had just enough clouds on the horizon to make the sunrise extra special too.

At 6 months old, babies are full of personality, and this little guy had so many adorable expressions! From big smiles to curious looks, he was such a happy, giggly baby. It was clear that he was having the best time at the beach for the first time, taking in all the new sights and sounds around him.

And as baby's will put everything in their mouths, this little guy got his first taste of sand. He wasn't sure what he thought at first and almost seemed to offer a taste to mom who was standing just off camera. He then seemed to study it a bit, pondering what this new texture was.

Every milestone is a reminder of how quickly time passes, and this baby boy’s 6-month photo session at the beach is a beautiful way to remember this special time in his life. Whether you’re documenting your own little one’s milestones or just want to capture the joy of a day at the beach, a sunrise session is a great choice. Baby's are usually happiest in the morning so it's the perfect time to capture those smiles.
If you’re thinking about a beach session for your family, don’t hesitate to reach out! Trust me, these moments will be ones you look back on and smile for years to come. We have so many beautiful beaches in the Cocoa Beach area and they're often the least crowded at sunrise!

A Case for Full Family Sessions
Satellite Beach Family Photographer
When it comes to getting family photos taken, it often seems like most families are just looking for a quick family mini session. Maybe finances are tight and they want a cheaper option; maybe they only want a handful of images (and think that means they need less session time); or maybe they just don't know enough about what goes into getting those amazing family photos they want. And mini sessions may work well for some families, but definitely not all. Here are some reasons to consider booking a full family session vs. a mini session...
Sunset Family Session on the Beach | Satellite Beach FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography
1. Time
Here's the thing about mini-sessions, it may cut your session time in half (or less), but it doesn't change the amount of time you and your photographer are spending outside of the actual session time; prepping outfits, planning the session, preparing your images, etc. Spending a full hour for your session with little ones can feel daunting (and make those mini sessions seem really tempting), but hear me out; it's worth it. If you are working with a lifestyle family photographer (like me), then you aren't going to need to just get your kiddos to sit and smile the whole time. There's no worries about attention spans (which as a mom and former teacher I know are short!), because we are taking breaks and playing games during your session time. I am there to capture your family having fun together; those special moments shared that you want to remember. I am there to capture your kiddos' personalities so that when you look back at your photographs in five plus years, you are remembering that time in your family's chapter and what your kiddos were like. Some kids open up to new people fairly quickly and we can get those personality shots early in the session, and then some, like the littlest one in this beach sunset family session, need almost the whole hour to warm up and really shine. If this session had been cut short, we would have only been able to capture the shy side of her personality and miss out on the smiles! (Be sure to read through the whole article so you can see the big cheesy smile we got towards the end!) Even some older kiddos who might be more shy with new people or have social challenges, like being n the spectrum, means that having more time will help things go much better. When we have the full hour, no one is rushed or stressed that we only have X minutes to get something good.

2. Variety
From variety within our location to a variety of groupings and semi-posed to playful images, having a full family session allows us to have time for all of these. Whether you are looking to hang some prints on the wall or fill an album to flip through for years to come, having a bigger variety of photos from your session will help make these a reality. We'll have time to get everyone together and looking at the camera once they've warmed up if that's an important shot for you to have. And we'll have time to capture the connections between each of the family members and make sure there's plenty of photos with mom in them (since it's usually mom behind the camera at home)!

3. Light
When having an outdoor family session, especially when it's at the beach, booking a full family session means that your session time is always going to be able to be when the lighting is the best. The session featured in this blog started out pretty cloudy but then the sun peeked out towards then end. If this wasn't a cloudy day, even having a mini session booked more than an hour before sunset would end up with lighting that's much more harsh and no chance for sunset colors in the sky.

4. Customized Experience
Don't like the beach? Mini session location or set doesn't fit your family's vibe or your home decor style? No worries when you book a full family session! Everything from the location, time of day that works best for you and your family, and session date is custom to your family. I'll help you with clothing choices and give you feedback on what you choose if needed. We'll discuss what kinds of photos and grouping you want me to capture during your session as well as getting some info about your kiddos' interests so I can connect with them in the first part of our session, helping them warm up to me and show me their true personalities.

5. Level of Service
Every session experience starts with a phone call so that I can get to know a little about you and your family, as well as what you want from your session. We plan the session, discuss clothing options, and I'll even scout a new location if you have something in mind that isn't already on my list. For your session time, I keep plenty of buffer in my schedule to allow for quick rescheduling if the weather gets in the way. After your session, I prepare your images for viewing, either in an online gallery for you to view and order on your own or at an in person ordering appointment where I will walk you through every step of the process (from narrowing down your favorites to choosing how to display your images). Once you've decided what you would like to order, each image is retouched (including removing any other people from the background) and prepared for print; whether you'll be printing them on your own by purchasing digital files or having me print them for you on museum grade fine art paper. If you order anything that is ready to hang on the wall, like canvas or framed prints, I'll even come to your house and hang them on the wall for you.

If these reasons to book a full family session ring true to you, let's chat! Family sessions at the beach are my favorite, but we can also do them in/around your home or at a non-beach location you like.
