Your Dog Is Always Welcome: How We Capture the Whole Family

Dog-Friendly Cocoa Beach Photographer

Okay, can we talk about how much better photos get when there's a dog in them?

There's just something magical that happens when a couple brings their pup to a golden hour beach session. The light is warm, everyone's relaxed, and instead of just a pretty photo shoot you end up with a gallery that actually feels like you.

We Do Both: Posed and Playful

A question I often get during session planning is: "Is it okay if we bring our dog?"

And every single time, my answer is absolutely yes. Please do!

Here's something many people don't know about me... before I started my photography business, I was a dog trainer. So when your dog decides to forget all previously taught commands, or just completely checks out and starts sniffing something in the distance, I'm not stressed. I've been there. I know how to redirect, how to work with their energy, and honestly, how to turn those moments into some of the best frames of the whole session.

Here's how I like to structure things:

First, we get the posed shots. While everyone's still fresh, we'll do the more intentional stuff: sitting together in the sand, walking along the water,
and a photo of just your pup. These are the ones you'll want to print big and hang on your wall.

Then, we just have fun. We break out the ball. We let the dog run. Someone usually ends up soaking wet (sorry in advance). And the photos from this part of the session? They're almost always the ones people end up obsessing over — because they're real. They're you. They're the chaos and the joy and the love that you can't really pose for.

Your Dog Is in Good Hands, Promise

My training background means I'm not just someone who tolerates dogs at sessions. I genuinely love working with them, and I know how to keep even the most anxious or excitable pup feeling comfortable. A relaxed dog makes for happy, natural photos, and that's always the goal.

A Few Tips Before Your Session

  • Bring the good treats. Not the everyday ones — the ones they go absolutely crazy for.
  • Give them a good run first. Even 15 minutes of play beforehand makes a huge difference.
  • Don't worry about them behaving perfectly. That's literally what I'm here for.
  • Bring a towel. I cannot stress this enough.

Let's Make Some Magic

If you've been on the fence about including your dog in your session, this is your sign. Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, just got engaged, or simply want photos that actually reflect your everyday life (dog hair and all), I would love to make that happen.

Brevard can sometimes feel like a tricky place to find dog-friendly beaches and location, but don't worry, I know ones that are!

When You Become the Art: Underwater Photography Sessions

Space Coast Florida Underwater Photographer

Some people hang art on their walls. Some hang photos. And then there are those who want a combination; a photograph that's also a work of art. And the subject of that art can be you! When you book an underwater session, we are making art together. We collaborate on the colors and feel of the photos, incorporating wardrobe choices and fabrics to get a look and feel that you'll love. That you'll want to display on your walls.

And the best part? You don't need to be a swimmer, a model, or anyone other than yourself.

The Magic Happens Below the Surface

There's something transformative about being underwater. The way fabric floats around you. The way light bends and dances through the water. The way everything slows down, goes quiet, and suddenly you're not just in a photo, you're in another world entirely.

Underwater Portraits in Central FloridaCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Underwater Portraits in Central FloridaCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

It's More Collaborative Than You Think

Before we ever get in the water, we talk. We talk about colors that make you feel alive, about the mood you want to capture, about the fabrics and wardrobe pieces that will move beautifully in the water. Are you drawn to rich jewel tones and a bold lighting? Soft light and flowing chiffon? Black backdrop or the blue of the pool?

There are no wrong answers. This is your vision just as much as it is mine, and my job is to bring it to life.

You Don't Have to Be an Expert in the Water

One of the questions I hear most often is: "But I can't hold my breath for very long, will that be a problem?" Not at all. We work in short, relaxed dips below the surface, and you'll have plenty of time to breathe and reset between shots. Sessions are held in a controlled pool environment, the water is shallow enough to stand in, we have a lifeguard for safety, and I'll be right there with you every step of the way. We go at your pace. We take breaks. We laugh a lot. By the end, most people tell me they wish it had lasted longer.

The Result: Art That's Uniquely, Beautifully You

When you hang one of these images on your wall, you're not hanging a snapshot of a moment in time. You're hanging a piece of art that says something about who you are: your grace, your strength, your willingness to try something extraordinary. Guests will stop and stare. And you'll smile, because you know what it took to make it.

Ready to Make Something Beautiful Together?

If you've been on the fence, consider this your sign. Sessions are limited, and I love working with people who are excited to create something truly one-of-a-kind. Whether you're treating yourself, celebrating a milestone, or simply ready to see yourself in a whole new light, I'd love to hear from you! Contact me for information on scheduling an underwater session!

When my son was 6, he really got into Harry Potter and it carried through well past 11, when we celebrated his birthday with his first trip to the Wizarding World at Universal in Florida. He was even chosen to do the wand ceremony! It was a super special, awesome day. I made Harry Potter robes for him, my husband. and me that we've used many times since then, including for Halloween, Harry Potter events, etc. We have a variety of Harry Potter games that we still play. When my son was 7, I had an idea to help capture his love for the series in a photo. I created the above photo for him, where he looks like he's flying a broom, playing quidditch, and trying to catch the snitch; wearing the quidditch robes I made for him. My so loved the photo so much, he asked for one the size of our dining room table to hang in his room. While we didn't go quite that big, we did get him a large print that still hangs on the wall above his bed. He's 14 now and although he still likes Harry Potter, he's not as into it as he was before, and has grown out of all of his robes. But we will always have this special photo capturing him at age 7 when he was super into Harry Potter.

This is what I love so much about Childhood Sessions; capturing kiddos just as they are at their age and stage of childhood and incorporating something they're really into. It gives them photographs that truly capture who they are, and parents get that memory forever preserved.

Childhood Sessions are all about the child.

Do they love the beach? Let's do their session at the beach doing what they love doing there.

Do they love the zoo? Let's do a session there!

Or maybe what they love is at home and we can capture them in their natural environment doing what they love.

Keep it Short

Childhood sessions are 30 minutes. Long enough to allow them to warm up if needed and for me to capture their personalities, but not too long that they loose interest or get tired.

Space Coast Child Photographer | Celebrate Childhood with Child Photo SessionsCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Clothing

We'll discuss clothing options that reflect their likes and personality but that will also photograph well.

Space Coast Child Photographer | Celebrate Childhood with Child Photo SessionsCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

What ages are these good for?

These sessions are great for kiddos ages 1 to 15.

A Token of Childhood

This is also a great opportunity to include a special loved item, like a blanket, stuffy or toy.

Space Coast Child Photographer | Celebrate Childhood with Child Photo SessionsCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

We can even work with a theme of something they're into. You can bring any props or things from home that you want to include in the session.

These kiddos grow up so fast. Let's capture these memories for both you and them!

Creating Art: An Underwater Maternity Session

Florida Underwater Photographer

An underwater maternity session is more than just capturing photos of you and your gorgeous belly, we're creating a work of art for you to preserve this time in your life. From the colors to the fabrics chosen, we'll customize the look and feel of your photos to fit your likes and style.

Backdrop or no backdrop?

I have a black backdrop we can use in the pool if you wish. This gives a more fine art look to the images and a clean background that doesn't make you feel like you're in a pool if that's not the look you want. It's also great if you're wanting blue or teal fabric or dress that would get lost in the blue look of the water without the backdrop.  Fine Art Underwater Maternity Photos | Florida Underwater PhotographerCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Fine Art Underwater Maternity Photos | Florida Underwater PhotographerCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Dresses and Fabrics

I have a variety of dress and fabric options in my client closet for you to choose from. From fluffy dresses to lace to long flowy fabrics that we can pair with a swimsuit or simple dress, we'll find something that suits your style. Those long, flowing fabrics can be fun to work with and allow for extra creativity in getting those ethereal underwater photos.

Light

The type of light we get at different times of day or by adding a light filtering fabric shade over the pool will also affect the look of the photos we capture. I'll show you examples to get an idea of what you're looking for and often we get some variety in the light during a session since the sun will change positions over the length of the session.

Faceless or Fully Submerged

The beauty of underwater maternity sessions is that you don't have to have your head under the water for every shot. We can still create beautiful photos, capturing the beauty of your belly while you get a break from holding your breath and going under the water. Every underwater maternity session will have a mix of both kinds for you to choose from.

Celebrate Your Love: An Underwater Couples Session

Orlando Underwater Couples Photographer

Love is fluid — it moves, it flows, it deepens. And there’s no better way to celebrate that connection than with a couples underwater session. Beneath the surface, where sunlight ripples through the water and everything slows down, your love story transforms into something magical, timeless, and ethereal.

Whether you’re newly engaged, celebrating an anniversary, or simply want to create art that reflects your bond, an underwater session offers a dreamy, one-of-a-kind experience that captures intimacy in its purest form.

The Magic of Underwater Couples Photography

Underwater photos are more than just beautiful — they’re symbolic.
Water represents emotion, trust, and surrender. When you and your partner step beneath the surface, you enter a quiet world where movement becomes dance, and every touch feels amplified.

That’s what makes underwater couples sessions so special: they tell a story of connection and vulnerability. The floating fabrics, the play of light, the stillness — all of it blends into art that’s as emotional as it is breathtaking.

Preparing for Your Underwater Session

An underwater photoshoot is a unique adventure, and with a little preparation, it can be both fun and unforgettable.

What to Wear

  • Flowing fabrics move beautifully underwater; chiffon, silk, or soft tulle. You'll have access to dresses in my client closet or you can wear your own!

  • Avoid heavy materials — they can weigh you down.

  • I'll help you with coordinating outfits with your partner. For guys, we keep it simple and often go with a button-down shirt and khaki shorts/pants or even jeans.

Makeup & Hair

  • Keep makeup minimal and waterproof. A good waterproof mascara and pop of lip color if you like is really all you need if you prefer to wear a little something.

  • Embrace movement: hair that floats freely adds to the ethereal feel.

Safety & Comfort

The most important part of an underwater shoot is feeling relaxed and safe. I always have a lifeguard/safety swimmer poolside and my pool is only 5 feet at its deepest so you can always just stand up. Practice holding your breath on the out breath while keeping your face relaxed (no puffy cheeks or squeezed shut eyes). A calm, playful mindset always translates beautifully in the images.

Why Choose an Underwater Photoshoot for Your Love Story?

  • It’s truly unique. Few experiences compare to the serenity and beauty of being photographed underwater.

  • It celebrates trust. Every movement requires connection and cooperation.

  • It creates art. These aren’t just portraits — they’re works of fine art for your home.

If you’re seeking a session that feels romantic, adventurous, and artistic, an underwater couples photoshoot might be your perfect match.

Embracing the Unexpected: An Underwater Maternity Session with the Whole Family

Viera Maternity Photographer

I'm the kind of person who likes to have a plan but can also pivot and adjust when things don't turn out as I'd thought. As a photographer who does many underwater sessions and also often works with toddlers (though mostly NOT in the water), being able to plan but pivot is an important skill! I always have a planning call with every client so that we can discuss their vision for the session and plan out the details to make sure I capture what they want. For this family, we planned for an underwater maternity session to also include Dad and 2 year old brother-to-be.

But as toddlers often do, he had his own plans. And that was not to go under the water.

Even on land, toddlers (especially 2 year olds!) often don't want any part of what we have planned. It's a little easier to go with the flow when we aren't requiring them to hold their breath and go under the water though. Sometimes, no matter how much they normally like to swim or go under the water, they may decide they no longer want to when it comes time for the session (though lots of practice leading up to the session can help!).

The beauty of a maternity session, is that much of the focus is on that beautiful belly holding the growing baby that will soon arrive. So instead of being fully underwater, we were able to capture sweet moments of connection with mom holding Mr. Two on her belly with their heads above water. Then we let the little one have a break and had just mom and dad together underwater and then of course some with just mom, making her look like the goddess that she is.

It’s so easy to get caught up in what we think a session should look like — but sometimes the real beauty comes from surrendering to what is.

When kids don’t want to participate in the way we imagine, it’s not a failure — it’s an invitation. An invitation to slow down, to observe, to capture what’s real. There’s something powerful in documenting those honest family dynamics, especially as life is about to change with a new baby on the way.

Capturing connections and love of a family are what I love most, whether it's on land or in the water, and we can still do that even if we can't get everyone all the way under the water.

Small Business Spotlight: Forgotten Block Butcher Shop - Cocoa, FL

I'm super excited to feature another of my favorite local small businesses with you! This family-owned, local butcher shop in Historic Cocoa Village sells high-quality meats as well as some other products to go along with your meats, like spices, sauces, jams, and more! My first meat purchase from them was St. Louis ribs and they were seriously the best ribs I've ever eaten! I've known this sweet family for a few years now as we first met through my homeschool nature group and they are all-around awesome people. If you're a meat eater, I highly recommend checking them out! Keep reading below for more info on their shop.

Forgotten Block Butcher and Market | Small Business Spotlight | Cocoa FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

What inspired you to open your business?

Forgotten Block was born out of a desire to reconnect people with real food, real community, and real craftsmanship. We were inspired by the traditions of old-school butcher shops: places where you knew your butcher, trusted the quality, and understood where your food came from. We saw a gap in our area for a business that prioritized transparency, sustainability, and supporting small farmers, and we knew we could help fill it. Our passion for whole animal butchery, thoughtful sourcing, and creative flavors, drives us every day. It’s about more than just meat, it’s about creating a space where people feel welcome, curious, and proud of what they’re feeding their families.

Who is your biggest inspiration in life/business?

Our biggest inspiration comes from the way we were raised, the kitchens we grew up in, and the responsibility we
feel to pass something meaningful on. Josh grew up in Florida, where his European grandmother made everything from scratch—sausages, pickles, preserves. That old-world approach to food taught him that good things take time and intention. Alejandra was raised in Mexico City, where family traditions revolved around food: seasonal, handmade, and full of cultural pride. Later, her stepfather from Savannah shared his love of Southern cooking, showing how food could connect people across generations and regions.

After getting married, we moved to Atlanta, where we worked in top tier restaurants alongside celebrated chefs. That time taught us more than just techniques, it revealed the importance of sourcing well, supporting local growers, respecting the land and animals, and cooking with integrity. They helped us understand that real food isn’t just about taste, it’s about how it’s grown, who’s behind it, and how it serves the people eating it.

And we realized something else, there aren’t many true butcher shops left. There are meat counters, yes, and grocery store cases, but not many places where you can talk to someone who knows where your meat came from, how it was raised, and how to prepare it with respect. We didn’t want to see that knowledge disappear. We wanted our kids, and the
next generation, to grow up seeing how food used to be and how it can still be.

Forgotten Block is our way of carrying that forward. It’s a celebration of tradition, a commitment to sustainability, and a love letter to the people who taught us that food is more than fuel, it’s history, it’s culture, and it’s care.

What do you love most about what you do?

We love the way food brings people together. Whether it’s a customer asking how to cook something new, a family picking up dinner, or a kid excited to see the butcher at work—it reminds us why we do this. We get to pass on old skills, support local makers, and help folks eat with more awareness and joy.

What is your biggest success with your business to date? What are you most proud of?

We’re especially proud every time someone walks in and says, “This reminds me of how things used to be,” or “I’ve never tasted anything like this.” That tells us we’re making an impact. Seeing our kids grow up around this—learning where food comes from, watching us do what we love, and helping out at the shop—that’s the real legacy.

Do you have a memorable moment in your business that you can share with us?

One of the most memorable moments for us was the day we signed the lease on our location in historic Cocoa Village. Years before Forgotten Block existed, we lived just down the street. We’d walk this neighborhood every day—pushing a stroller, dreaming about the future, admiring the charm of the area—not knowing that one day, we’d open our brick and mortar shop right here.

Five years later, we found ourselves back with two daughters, building something deeply rooted in our values, in a place that already felt like home. It felt like everything had come full circle. Opening in a community we already loved—where we’ve lived, worked, and grown as a family—has made this journey feel even more meaningful. It was never part of the plan, but somehow it was exactly where we were meant to be.

What can your clients expect from you when they order/purchase from you?

When clients order or purchase from us, they can expect quality, transparency, and care—every single time. We take pride in knowing exactly where our products come from and how they’re made. Whether it’s a hand-cut steak, house-made charcuterie, or a deli sandwich, everything is crafted with intention using sustainably sourced meats and thoughtfully chosen ingredients.

They can also expect a personal experience. We’re not just here to sell food—we’re here to talk cuts, sourcing, swap recipes, and help people feel confident about what they’re eating. We love when customers ask questions or want to try something new, because that connection is what Forgotten Block is all about.

At the end of the day, our goal is to make people feel good about what they’re feeding themselves and their families—and to always deliver something that’s a little unexpected, a little old-school, and made with a whole lot of heart.

Tell us three things about you that we might not know.

1. It took over 4 years of planning, researching and developing of Forgotten Block

2. We are long distance hikers! We are a strong couple and aware of our capabilities because in 2014 we hiked the Appalachian Trail in its entirety! It took 7 months, we dehydrated and vacc sealed all our meals, planned our stops and put one foot in front of the other from Georgia to Maine. It almost killed us, but it definitely made us stronger!

3. We have worked some amazing gigs! From local hospitals to celebrity chefs and charity organizations. Together.

Name three local businesses you love and why.

B & B Candles and Soaps here in Cocoa village makes the tallow skincare for us, think small-batch, hand-poured, and made with real care. We render the grass fed tallow the old-school way so the bars and balms feel rich but sink in clean; the scents are subtle and never try too hard. Beyond the product, Bethany’s been a true friend for about a decade, her husband Matt has been a friend for DECADES and that trust shows in every label and batch. If you want sustainable, locally made body care that feels like home, B & B is it.

Dope Little farm: Family-run, scrappy, joyful Dope Little Farms supplies eggs, microgreens, and honey to restaurants across the county one plate at a time. Their microgreens make our boards pop, the honey finishes a cheese plate perfectly, and those eggs? the kind you taste the sunshine in. They share our values on sustainability, transparency, and supporting neighbors, and their hustle is exactly the kind of local food story worth shouting about. Dope Little Farms is the small family operation doing big work for our community. Support local farms!

Apothecafe, Keith is an absolute monster behind the coffee beans — consistent, creative, and loved along the county for a reason. Apothecafe’s mushroom blends and mushroom coffees bring that functional-wellness edge without the woo; the vibes and the crowd prove it. They also rock Carter Cafe at the Savannahs in MI, great people, great coffee, and an awesome following. If you want a coffee that hits both flavor and function, this is your stop.

BONUS: Rebellion Wine Bar and Rebellion Bistro. Joe and Michelle run a brilliant wine bar that feels equal parts neighborhood hang and date-night destination. Chad (wine wizard at the wine bar) and Hiji (bistro's liquid chef) are the reason every plate and glass we’ve had there absolutely slaps. Cocktails, wine, or a small plate — everything has been a total killer. Big love to the folks keeping late-night good times classy and delicious.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Just that we’re incredibly lucky to be part of a community where small businesses lift each other up. The people I’ve mentioned aren’t just vendors or fellow shop owners — they’re friends, collaborators, and the reason our local food and drink scene is so special. Every steak, every egg, every cup of coffee, every bar of soap has a story and a family behind it, and that’s worth supporting.
