Award Winning Family Photographer | From Maternity & Babies to Seniors & Underwater Space Coast - Brevard County FL Spring Beach Sessions | Amelia Island - Fernandina Beach, FL
Do you and your family love the beach? Do you want to capture your family's memories of spending time at the beach together?
Spring is the perfect time to book a beach session! The weather is warming up but it isn't unbearably hot yet. Plus there's no worry that a hurricane will mess with your session date. Schedules start to lighten a bit as school winds down and summer approaches making it easier to fit beach time into your plans.
And don't forget that Mother's Day is coming up... celebrate by getting in front of the camera with your kids. Family photos are gifts that will last a lifetime (or longer!). Your children will cherish their photos with you when they're grown.
Contact me for more information or to book your session! See you at the beach! <3 Kim Owner/Artist-Photographer Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Baby Milestones Photography | Benefits of a Baby Plan MembershipI recently launched a new Baby Plan Membership program for 2017 and photographed the first milestone session of the year last month. I am thrilled to be offering this amazing program to my clients. The first year with a new baby seems to fly by. They grow so fast in that first year and go through many firsts and milestones. And it's not just a year of growth for baby, but for the parents (and siblings) too. For first time parents, you become a parent with your first baby and learn so much in that first year. Making it through is not just an accomplishment for Baby but for Mom and Dad too! Make sure you are part of the documentation of your baby's growth and milestones and not just the one behind the camera.
I designed my Baby Plan to help you capture the major milestones in the first year: newborn, 6 months (or sitting) and one year. There's an option to add on a maternity session as well as an option to add a 3 month (or 9 month) session if you'd like an extra session in your plan. You can also add a Members Only Petite Holiday session during your plan year to get images specifically for a holiday card (these are not offered to anyone who is not a Baby Plan Member).
There are several other benefits to becoming a plan member. When you commission me to document your baby's first year, you also receive priority scheduling, 20% off a la carte purchases for life (not just doing your plan year!), and complimentary birth announcements.
All sessions take place in your home or on-location. That means you don't need to leave your house with your baby if you don't want to! This is especially great for the newborn session when leaving the house is not big on the priority list. Moms need their rest too!
I only take on a limited number of Baby Plan Memberships for each calendar year to ensure the highest quality of service to all of my clients. If you're interested in becoming a plan member, I'd love to chat with you! Contact me here or give me a call at 912-322-6714.

Extended Family Photography | Saint Marys GA - Fernandina Beach FLI love when clients call me to schedule a session as a gift for parents/grandparents. What better gift than preserving the memories and relationships of a family and having photographs that will last a lifetime and beyond. Mr. D wanted family photos for Christmas so we scheduled a day in January when everyone's schedule allowed them to be free on the same day. The weather almost complicated things, but held off so we could do this session. We started with some of the traditional photos that Pops wanted and then had time to play and get some really fun images (which of course are my favorite!). We made sure to get every combination with everyone (though I didn't include them all here). Here are just a few of my favorites, starting with a generation capture.
I love getting grandparents with the grandkids. There are some really great playful photos below too!
The boys got creative for their generation photo... of course that involved sliming the twisty tree!
Ms L hasn't had her portrait done since she was a senior in high school. We had to remedy that!
These two made it pretty easy for me to get great smiles from laughter. It's pretty clear they know how to have fun together! Nothing like grandma's tickles to make this little one giggle.
Pops apparently also knows the right tickle spots! I loved watching and capturing the special bond these two share.
These two beautiful ladies, sharing a mother-daughter moment.
I love this sweet moment of interaction with Baby K and her mom and dad.
And of course we had to get everyone all together.
Then we had some fun! This was probably my favorite photo of the day. Dad was getting ready to toss Mr. R into the air!
And he loves to fly!
We ended with a little fun on the slide with mom and Mr. R.
Thank you N Family for choosing me to capture your extended family and trusting me with the precious gift of photographs. I'm looking forward to watching the littles grow this year as I capture Baby K's milestones! <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Looking to capture your family as they are right now? Personal Projects 2017 - Project 365 & 100 Days of Black & White | January FavoritesAfter completing a Project 52 for the last two years, I've decided to make the leap to a Project 365 for 2017. I'm also going to be doing another 100 Days of Ten project as part of my first 100 days of my 365, 100 Days of Black and White. If you've followed me for long, you know I typically lean towards color with only occasionally converting to black and white. I am always looking for ways to push myself and grow as a photographer so I decided this would be a good way to stretch my skills and get out of my comfort zone and really look at what makes a good black and white image. Plus, since I tend to take more photos inside this time of year, black and white can help reduce distractions in the environment when done correctly. I have some other ideas to work on later in the year as well, so stay tuned! I'll be sharing some of my favorites here on the blog, but all of them will be posted on Instagram (@kimberlytank) if you'd like to follow along. So here are my favorites for January...
This first one I took at MOSH (Museum of Science and History) in Jacksonville. My son received a dual membership for MOSH and the Jacksonville Zoo for Christmas so we went to check it out. He loved the energy room with the games to make each kind of energy work.
I love black and white conversions for low light situations like this one. Since this is also my Project 365, I want to capture the every day things in my life and my family life, with the extra challenge of doing so in a way that looks good in black and white! We had our weekly movie night and my son wanted to watch from his chair so I thought I'd play with creating a darker image using just the light from the tv. (He loves the Buddies movies on Netflix and Snow Buddies is probably his favorite.)
My son's birthday was in January and my mom came for his birthday weekend. He gets so excited when Gramma is coming and looks outside constantly to see if she's arrived yet.
While my mom was here, my husband and I were able to have a date night (which we haven't had in way too long) and we decided to go bowling. (The base here in Kingsbay has a great bowling alley.) I saved my picture for the day until our date with a vision in my head of what I might capture. This was not it lol! We haven't been bowling in so long and I didn't realize it was going to be cosmic bowling and that they'd have music videos on tv screens at the end of the lanes. The lights were crazy and it was SO dark. But I was determined to make it work and I actually really like how it turned out.
For my son's birthday, we went down to the Kennedy Space Center because he loves all things space right now. It was a lot of fun and one of his favorite parts was piloting a model of the Atlantis. This is probably my favorite shot this month.
My husband has been a geo-bachelor for almost 9 years. Meaning he's been stationed away from our home while I've stayed here (first in Charleston, SC and then in Norfolk, VA.... it's a long story). He's finally been stationed back home for his last duty station before retiring. We've all been so excited for him to finally been home with us as it's been a long road and we're so thankful we didn't end up having to move (which we would have done if he hadn't gotten here). So this day was his first day reporting to shore duty and I knew I had to capture it. I'm so glad I'll be able to capture more of him now that he's home!
After our date night, we knew we needed to take our son bowling too as he's never been and we knew he'd have fun. They have these cute dinosaur tails that are ramps for kids to slide the bowling ball down... he tried it a couple times and then decided he wanted to throw it down the lane like Daddy. He always managed to strike a pose after throwing it too. It was tons of fun! I'd love to know which one was your favorite? <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Need updated photos of your children or family together? Second Annual Session GiveawayThis holiday season, I wanted to make sure I instilled in my son the true spirit of Christmas so we tried to do as many random acts of kindness as we could fit in. The holidays may be over, but I want to make sure we continue random acts of kindness throughout the year and incorporate more giving back with my business. I'm starting the year by bringing back my anniversary giveaway from last year. I'm going to make things a bit easier this year: no need to submit a photo and you can nominate yourself! Not everyone has the support system that could nominate them for this giveaway and I don't want those families left out.
Do you know a deserving family who has inspired you? Someone who needs a something to brighten their day/week/year? Someone who is always giving to others? Or maybe a family who's been through a tough time? A family who otherwise might not be able to have a professional family portrait for their wall? I want to hear their/your story! The winner will receive a free family session and an 11x14 wall print and corresponding digital file of the image of their choice from their session. The session must take place February-August 2017.
To nominate a family, send me an email at kimberly.tank (at) gmail.com and tell me about the family you are nominating, or you and your family, and why you think they/you deserve to win this session with me. Please include contact information for the family (this will only be used if they win).
Official Rules: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. 1- Send me an email nominating a family with the information listed above by January 21st. 2-The winning family will be drawn at random on January 23rd and contacted directly to let them know they've won and to schedule their session. 3-Session location options will be chosen by the photographer (in or around the St Marys, GA area). 4-Information collected for this contest will not be sold to third parties and will only be used by me in correlation with this giveaway. *There is no cash value for this prize. This giveaway is not in any way connected with Facebook.
<3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Saint Marys GA - Fernandina Beach FL Photographer | Project 52: November-DecemberThe final installment of my Project 52 is here! Next year (starting tomorrow!), I'm going to be doing a Project 365 instead of a Project 52 which will also better correlate with my 100 Days of 10 project that I'll be doing as well (starting with 100 days of black and white). I'm going to give myself some leeway though and not every image will be taken with my DSLR, there'll be iPhone captures as well. The important part for me is that I continue to document my own life and family and not get lost in just client work. My personal projects have always helped me grow and be creative, which in turn improves my client work as well. I'll post some of my favorites in monthly or bi-monthly blogs, but don't worry, I won't be spamming you all with every picture! So now the final images of 2016...
46/52 - Beach Boy We're so lucky to live in the south where we can play at the beach pretty much all year round. It does get chilly int he winter but that has yet to stop Connor from playing at the beach and splashing in the ocean. The Gulf Stream keeps the water here from getting super cold. It really is our favorite place to be!
47/52 - Gingerbread House We never built gingerbread houses as kids but always thought it'd be fun. My son and I have several allergies, however, making the classic gingerbread house making a bit of a challenge (unless we just didn't eat it, but where the fun in that?). So when we were at Michael's getting supplies to make ornaments and saw the foam ones, I knew this was just the thing we needed. My son had a blast putting it together and it kept him busy for a good bit too :).
48/52 - Christmas Tree Lot When I was a kid, we went every year the weekend after Thanksgiving to a tree farm to cut down our Christmas tree. Our adventure usually ended with hot cocoa and candy canes. I love the smell and look of a real tree. My husband and I had a real tree for our first Christmas together, which left him sneezing with watery eyes since of course he's allergic but didn't tell me. So the next year we bought an artificial tree and have used it ever since. Now that we have a son, part of me wants to visit a tree farm just for the experience... and maybe we can dig up a little tree and plant it in the yard to decorate instead of putting it inside. We don't have many tree farms near us here in the south so we haven't ventured out to one yet. So instead, we went to a local tree lot to check out the trees this year.
49/52 - Holiday Baking One of my favorite memories as a kid was the holiday baking with my mom, especially decorating the spritz cookies with sprinkles. My son loves to bake/cook with me and I really wanted to capture this. Next time, maybe I'll set up a tripod and get myself in the frame too!
50/52 - Dickens on Centre For the past few years, the city of Fernandina Beach, FL puts on a holiday event downtown called Dickens on Centre. They have vendors, entertainment, and people walking around dressed like Dickens' characters. This was the second year we went and they have a kid zone this year that was pretty awesome. My son loved it and probably could have played there all day On our way back toward our car, I spotted this old red phone booth and knew it would make for a cool photo. It was a bit of a challenge trying to keep my son in it long enough to snap a picture, but I got one!
51/52 - Making Ornaments Each year since my son was born, I made ornaments to send to family that used my son's footprint or handprint. Now that he's old enough to make something himself, I gave him some options of what kind of ornament to make this year and let him choose. He chose snowflake ornaments and wanted to decorate them with glitter. He loves making messes... I mean doing art projects... especially when glitter is involved. It's a good thing we have a room just for this kind of stuff!
52/52 - Lego Building My son is finally ready for "big kid legos" so he asked for those (and more cars) for Christmas. Naturally, he ended up with legos from several family members so he has a good start on his collection. He loves the city ones, because it's basically like having more cars and planes but he gets to build them first! I wanted to capture him building some of them for my final image, and of course had to include Daddy who was helping him (and maybe needed some legos of his own, haha!). And yes, if you haven't noticed, my son is not a fan of clothes in the house no matter how cold it might get outside. Though we've only had a couple of cold days so maybe he'll start wearing a little more during the winter months... maybe...
Thank you for following along with my project this year! I'm looking forward to stepping up my documentation of my own life and family with a 365 starting tomorrow. Happy New Year and may 2017 be full of love and laughter! <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography
2016 Year in ReviewAnother year is coming to a close and I want to take a moment and reflect on this year. It's been a challenging year for me as I continued to grow my business while also dealing with my own life stress and health issues. Yet I've still accomplished so much and am happy with how much my business has grown. I've met many new families and welcomed back many repeat families as well. You can now see my work in the Osprey Living Magazine, Dr. Mixson's office in St Marys, and soon at Nassau Veterinary Hospital in Yulee. Thank you to all of you who have supported me on this journey and have trusted me to capture your family's precious memories. I love documenting your growing families and turning your images into works of art that you can proudly display in your homes. I'm looking forward to 2017 and have some really great things in the works that I'll be announcing throughout the year. To make sure you don't miss any of the announcements, make sure you're on my email list! This year instead of a photo collage, I put together a slideshow with some of my favorites from 2016.
