Award Winning Family Photographer | From Maternity & Babies to Seniors & Underwater Space Coast - Brevard County FL Baby's First Year Milestones | Baby Photography - Saint Marys GAThis sweet, adorable baby seriously has the best smile ever. And I may be a little biased but I can't count how many times people stopped to say how cute she is. I really can't blame them! Here are a few favorites from her sitting milestone session.
I love to capture the details that we normally capture for newborn sessions, those little hands and feet, the eyelashes, etc. Those small things that are so easy to forget without a photograph to help us remember.
This quilt was made especially for Baby M, so we incorporated both sides of it in her session.
She decided to show off for us as the end and hung on to the bench and stood long enough for me to capture it.
Thank you B Family for always trusting me to capture these memories for you! <3 Kim Owner/Artist-Photographer Kimberly Tank Art & Photography I only take on a limited number of Baby Plan Memberships for each calendar year to ensure the highest quality of service to all of my clients. Baby's First Year - 6 Month Milestone | Saint Marys GA Baby PhotographerThis was the perfect way to start my week with this sweet, smiling baby's 6 month milestone session on a Monday morning. Her woodsy session goes with her nickname too. She was all smiles and is already on the move and crawling everywhere!
Big brother made a quick cameo and it was precious.
And then there was this look, and it was just precious. I mean, just look at that face!
At this age, everything is interesting and must be explored by putting it in their mouth. So when she found this leaf, that's exactly what she did!
Mmmmm, tasty...
The leaf was determined not edible (read, we took it away before it started coming apart), so naturally it was time for the good stuff. We ended the session with some nursing photos.
Baby K started playing with momma's fingers while she nursed. I love capturing these sweet little moments.

Before & After | Maternity Photographer | Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach, FLIt isn't often that I use a lot of Photoshop in my images. I work to get it right in camera and then process mostly with Lightroom, but there are times when an image calls for a little more, whether it's to remove a distraction, some retouching that's better done in Photoshop, or really taking an image to another level. This image called for a little bit of everything so I thought it would be fun to do a before and after post. The before image is straight out of the camera (SOOC). I was shooting quickly to capture the movement in this momma's gown as my lovely assistant (read husband) tossed the second layer of the dress and tried to get out of the way. He's fast, but not that fast...
When I went through the images after the session and saw the shape the dress made with the wind and my husband tossing it, I knew this image needed to be taken to the next level. It wasn't enough to develop the image and remove my husband from it, because no matter how much I played with the crop, it just wasn't right with what I had to work with in the frame. I really wished I had more beach/ocean to the right, so it was something I had to add to achieve my vision.
So that's my little behind the scenes for you! If you'd like more posts like these, let me know! <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Are you expecting? I really loved the push of shooting in black and white for 100 days and not being able to rely on color contrast to help my subject stand out and tell the story I want to share. It really made me look at the light and I had a lot of fun shooting more at night. I predict I'll be doing more black and white conversions in the future but I'm glad to be back in color! Here are a few of my favorites from April. This was my first time playing with my underwater camera housing. We had a ton of fun in the waves and this was the same day I took my recent award winning image too!
This is one of those time when I had a vision of something I wanted to capture. I really wanted to capture my son looking at the stars because he loves all things space right now. I knew the best place for my vision was the beach and because my son has a hard time being still long enough for a long exposure, I knew my husband would need to be with him. I really wanted him looking through his telescope at the stars but I knew he wasn't ready to be still like that just yet. We tried sitting and laying down and this one worked best. I definitely want to try this one again!
We regularly have a pizza and movie night together as a family so it was something I wanted to make sure I captured in my project. My son likes to help, which involves helping himself to the pepperoni and "cheese" (we're dairy free). This ended up being the perfect capture of our pizza night shenanigans.
This year was my son's first official season to t-ball. Two years ago, he was in a smart start pre-t-ball program through the Navy base and last year we missed signups (because who is thinking about t-ball in January??). He really loves it and I think he'll likely choose baseball over gymnastics when he passes level 3 and he'd have to join the team or be done. I've captured a few of his games and since we had an evening game, I wanted to try a panning shot of him running so that everyone else on the field isn't a distraction to my subject/story, and I just love panning!
For Easter, my son received a space shuttle kite so naturally we had to go to the beach to fly it. It was the perfect way to spend our evening and the he had a blast flying it (it flew really well too!)
I wonder if I will ever tire of taking pictures of my son sleeping. My guess is probably not. Tuesday are long days for us between homeschool co-op, errands, and gymnastics. He almost always falls asleep on the way home and we just plop him on the couch until dinner is ready if he doesn't wake up when we get home.
Back to color! This one was a favorite from my continued Project 365. I've been wanting to take a picture of my son doing a cartwheel and he finally decided to do cartwheels at the park one evening.

Childhood Photos at the Park | Saint Marys GA Child PhotographerMeet Mr. Q. This adorable little boy just turned two and what better way to celebrate than with updated photos of him doing the things he loves. We met at the park where he started to explore and then brought out some of his favorite cars to play with too. Once he realized there was a playground, that's exactly where he needed to be! I brought out a whoopee cushion too, which meant lots of giggles! At the end, I gave him a lollipop and I'm so glad I continued to capture him doing that time because those are some of my (and Mom's!) favorites. And I always encourage mom to be in a photo or two, our children will cherish those photographs the most. It was a fun session full of throwing pine cones, climbing, playing with cars, sliding down slides, laughing at the whoopee cushion, and being an adorable two year old!
Thank you M Family for allowing me to capture this sweet time in Mr. Q's childhood for you. <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Need updated photos of your children? (And ladies, you can use some of these ideas for your own moms too of course.) Mother's Day is almost here. A day to celebrate Mom and thank her for all she does. If you haven't already figured out what to get her, I've put together a few ideas for you.
1. Hotel Room/Uninterrupted Sleep - This was the most common response from my Facebook poll, especially from moms with young kids. Being a parent of little ones is exhausting and often times mom is up in the middle of the night or up late/early trying to catch up on all the things that need to be done and thus not getting enough sleep. Some moms specifically requested a hotel room where they could sleep alone for a night, uninterrupted. If you want to go all out and pamper her (and you're local), you could splurge for a room at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island or Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. Or at the very least, take the kids out of the house to play at a park/zoo/museum and let mom take a nap. Just make sure the house is clean and laundry is caught up so she doesn't end up using that time to catch up on those!
2. Clean House - Speaking of a clean house, if you don't already have someone come clean your home, you could either hire someone to come clean so Mom gets a week off from cleaning the house (if she is the one who usually does it) or you (Dad) and the kids (if old enough) can do it! 3. Pampering - What mom wouldn't want some sort of pampering? You could book her a massage, manicure/pedicure, facial, or gift her some fun pampering goodies. 4. Jewelry - There's always a nice piece of jewelry from your favorite jeweler. I love to support locally owned businesses whenever I can. If you're looking for fine jewelry, look no further than Crow Jewelers based in Fernandina Beach, FL. Linda, the owner, is a super sweet person and is a gemologist. Her work is stunning and you won't regret a piece from her. If your budget isn't at the fine jewelry level, there are a couple other options that might be the perfect gift. There are two handmade jewelry companies I've discovered and love... one is Amber Dreams Jewelry and the other is Wonderment Jewelry. Amber Dreams Jewelry specializes in handmade gemstone and amber pieces and Liz, the owner, is another wonderful person I know personally. Wonderment Jewelry specializes in handcrafted silver jewelry designed with little fingers in mind (known as Mama Metal). Both have ready to go options or you can customize a piece especially for Mom. I love my custom amber necklace from Amber Dreams Jewelry (pictured above) and my custom beach inspired piece just arrived from Wonderment Jewelry and it's absolutely beautiful. 5. Coffee/Tea- Yes, what gets many moms through motherhood! Pair Mom's favorite coffee, tea, or wine with a fun coffee mug or wine glass. If you haven't tried Bold Bean Coffee in Jacksonville, you're missing out. They have really great coffee and they roast it right in Jacksonville. For your tea drinker, Tea Nation USA teas are amazing. They are local to Jacksonville and have a wide variety of teas and can even make you a custom blend! The company is run by a husband and wife team who are pretty awesome people and really know their teas! I often find fun mugs and glasses at TJ Maxx or Home Goods. I'm a bit of a mug collector myself so I love mugs (my recent favorite pictured above from Kennedy Space Center). If Mom enjoys reading, you could include a new book for her to read (or gift card for a book) and then schedule time to keep the kids occupied so she can relax and read it! 6. Handmade Art/Craft from the Kids - You really can't go wrong here as long as you put in the time (that means no last minute draw a 5 minute picture kind of thing!). Moms love handmade gifts from their littles. Bring your kids to an Open Paint at Paisley Grace Makery and paint signs for Mom. Color Me Happy Pottery in Brunswick is a great place to take your kid and have them paint a mug for mom (to go with the coffee or tea in #4!). There's also Doing Dishes Pottery Studio in Jacksonville and St Johns. 7. Photographs - Of course this list would not be complete (or on my blog!) without including photos! This also came up several times in my poll. And of all the things on this list, this is what will last the longest and mean the most. I know some dads are hesitant to do family photos (or pay for them), but I promise you, this will make Mom so happy! Even if it's just photos of Mom and the kids, because moms are often the ones behind the camera documenting the kids or the kids with Dad. Find a photographer who will make it easy on all of you and help you plan all the details and deliver a beautiful finished product that you can all cherish for many years to come. If a professional photo session isn't in the budget/priority list, make sure to take some snapshots of mom with the kids, and not just the cheesy ones but ones of them playing and having fun too. Then print them out and put them in an album or a frame, don't leave them on the computer (or your phone). You can also go through the photos already sitting on the computer and get them printed out and into an album to give to Mom. Artifact Uprising and Picaboo are two of my favorite album companies if you want to create your own album to gift for Mother's Day.
Now you have a few ideas you might not have thought of before! If you'd like to gift Mom with a photo session, give me a call 912.322.6714 and we can discuss details (and I'll get you a gift card to give her to open on Mother's Day!). <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Childhood Photo Sessions | St Marys GA - Fernandina Beach, FL Child Photographer
Childhood sessions are one of my favorite sessions to do. I love documenting children and who they are right now.
These sessions started as themed birthday sessions that I did each year for a close friend of mine.
Then I started my business and began doing personal projects in which I capture my own son and the little things I want to remember about his childhood.
What was once a "birthday mini" has evolved into capturing the essence of a child and what they love. For some clients, this is still a great way to celebrate a birthday and have updated photos. Incorporating something your child loves can make the session even more fun and meaningful.
But if your child is like mine and loves the beach, playing in water (or mud!), and has a birthday in the middle of winter, you might miss out on capturing those fun elements if you are only thinking about birthday photos.
Summer is just around the corner... school will be out and the days are long and full of fun things your children love to do. Why not capture those memories and have a beautiful portrait that shows who your child really is right now? <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Need updated photos of your children?
