Award Winning Family Photographer | From Maternity & Babies to Seniors & Underwater Space Coast - Brevard County FL Project 52 | Special Memories | St Marys Child PhotographerI've officially completed my first Project 52! This project has helped me grow and learn new things as well as keep me pulling out my camera to document my own life. I will be doing another for 2016 but without themes so hopefully I will actually take an image every week and not get stuck on themes. Instead, I'm thinking of doing a general focus like "finding the beauty/joy in every day". This was a hard month for us, as we had to say goodbye to one of our doggies who had cancer. I'm so grateful for this project and photography to help me capture the special relationship she had with my son and help us through the grieving process.
Week 42 | Dreams Sometimes a moment happens and it's exactly what you need. This was that moment. Just a few days before we had to say goodbye to our sweet Zoe, my son fell asleep on the floor and shortly thereafter, Zoe went and laid down beside him. It was such a sweet moment that brought tears to my eyes knowing it would probably be the last time this happened.
Week 47 | Negative Space I originally had a couple other ideas for this theme and had settled on taking my camera outside and getting an overhead shot of my son laying in the grass. But first he had to play. My little monkey loves the new cargo climbing net we added to his swings for Christmas. He climbed all the way to the top and it worked perfectly to use the sky as negative space, so this is what I ended up with...
Week 49 | Silhouette We took our Zoe to the beach on her last day with us because she's always loved the beach and we wanted to make her day special. I also wanted to take a few more photos of her and my son together and knew this would be the perfect place to do so. They had so much fun together. It was the perfect last day.
"When dogs go to Heaven, they don't need wings because God knows that dogs love running best." ~Cynthia Rylant, Dog Heaven
Week 51 | Friendship I had this image in my head that I wanted to capture for this theme of my son and Zoe. I actually took a completely different image with him and two of his close friends in case I didn't get this shot. I only had one chance to get it because we took it right before leaving the beach that morning and my son was not wanting to cooperate long. This was the only shot I got like this and I'm so happy I got it.
Later that day, I found this poem that went perfectly with this image: So this is where we part, My Friend, I will go on; I'll find the strength, There are others, that much is true, Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
Week 52 | Magic Moments And my final image for this project... this was the "magic" moment right before I was tackled by my almost 4 year old and the "magic" moment that I had completed this project! He was running with his new pal Scout the Deer, which he received for Christmas. If you haven't heard of Cuddle and Kind dolls yet, go check them out!
Thank you for following along with me this year! I hope you'll stick around for more weekly images next year! <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

And it really seemed to apply to this project. I am giving up on perfection and trying to find the absolute best, most amazing idea/shot for the remaining themes. My goal at this point is to finish. I've really started to let go of this a while ago but I'm really committed to finish and so far I'm on track! I actually just started pulling out my camera more and documenting our life and then trying to figure out where I could fit the images into the themes. I have 5 themes left and that's totally doable in this last month. So without further ado, here are six more images I took for this project.
Week 36 | Soft This was actually taken over Thanksgiving when my family and I rented a house by the beach. My son loves to jump on beds but we have Tempur Pedic matresses in our house so he takes advantage when we go somewhere else (what kid wouldn't?). I initially wanted to take pictures of him jumping on the bed but it turned into a pillow fight instead. I love their expressions in the image and figured it would go nicely with the soft theme. Pillows are soft...
Week 44 Parallel Lines My son and I went to scout a new location I thought I could use for sessions. I'm familiar with the location as I used to train my search dog there but that was always in the morning and I was never paying attention to the light. The light was perfect and the texture overgrown weeds and other plants was great. There was this great gate there that I knew would be perfect to use for this theme. I love the little smirk on my son's face here. It wasn't the most technically perfect of the shots I took but it's still my favorite.
Week 45 | Underneath This was one of those "just get it done" themes so I encouraged my son to crawl under this table and snapped a few photos. I loved the line of his body in this one.
Week 46 | Wide Angle My son loves our dogs. We received some bad news before Thanksgiving that our Zoe (on the right) had a large mass in her belly. I knew I needed to get more pictures of her with my son. He wanted to have me take another picture of him reading with her like I did earlier in this project, which I did, but this one was more fun and fit this theme (plus I didn't want a repeat shot of him reading to her for this project). It's a little reminiscent of the king of the wild things too. Zoe is his favorite and has been such a wonderful dog (perfect if not for her health issues). We have been lucky to have her these 9 years and will miss her terribly.
Week 48 | Macro I took this picture back in October when we carved our Halloween pumpkin. I don't have a macro lens, so although this is technically not a true macro, it's as close as I can get it with my current gear.
Week 50 | Outside Looking In This theme didn't come to me until I was going through images for our Christmas card. I wanted to do something with my son and the tree and this is his favorite spot at Christmas time. He loves to look up at all the lights! Then it occurred to me that he is "outside looking in" and fit this theme. And no, this isn't the image for our Christmas card ;).
Thanks for following along with my project! Which image from this post was your favorite and why? I'd love to know! <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Family Session on Big Talbot Island | Jacksonville Beach Family PhotographyI have been photographing this family since my first year in business and I'm honored they continue to come back to me and trust me to document the special times in their life. They had been wanting to have a session on Big Talbot Island at Skeleton Beach and after reschedules due to illness and weather, we were finally able to make it happen! This time the goal for the session was an album to capture everyone playing and exploring at the beach. We did get a couple family portraits in there as well. We overcame bugs and had a beautiful sunset. Here are a few favorites from the session!

In-home Newborn Session | St Marys Newborn PhotographerBefore this sweet little man was born, his momma came over and we made a cast of her belly to use for his newborn photos. Eight days after documenting his birth, I went back for his newborn session. It's clear his two big sisters are in love with him and are going to be his protectors growing up! We did a very laid back session to capture the special relationship with his big sisters and his momma, as well as get a photograph of him in his momma's belly cast. Here are a few of my favorites!

And last but not least, in the belly cast. He loves his hands by his face and it almost looks like he's praying here (probably for more milk!).
I'm looking forward to watching this sweet little man grow! He's already becoming that sweet, squishable, chunky baby! <3 Kim Owner/Photographer-Artist Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Expecting or just had a baby? Woodsy Photo Session | Saint Marys Family PhotographerThis sweet couple came back for updated pictures of the two of them and their "furbabies". I wanted to get something different for them this year that wasn't just everyone (including the dogs!) looking at the camera. Since they have 4 dogs, I thought it would be fun to channel a little 101 Dalmatians and go for a tangled-in-leashes shot. It actually took some work to get set up but it turned out to be one of our favorites from the session! Glad we could count on Thor to add movement to our little staged chaos too! Here are a few other of my favorites too.

Surprise Gender Home Birth | Birth Photography | Saint Marys GAI was asked to photograph this birth before this momma was even pregnant. A good friend of mine asked if I would photograph her next baby's birth that she knew she wanted to have at home (ok, she insisted I would be the one to photograph the birth, and of course I couldn't say no). This would be my first time photographing a birth and it was exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time. I wanted to make sure I captured the essence of each moment throughout the labor, delivery and postpartum baby snuggles and tell the story of this baby's birth. I don't consider myself a photojournalist, so I took a workshop to help me see photography in a more documentary way (I normally shoot a session with direction from me in addition to capturing candid moments). I used my Project 52 to practice taking more documentary type images and shooting in less than ideal situations like nighttime indoors without a flash or fancy lighting because you can't predict when baby will arrive! (And of course baby arrived late at night!) This birth was so very special for so many reasons. Not only my personal connection, but baby's gender was a surprise and we weren't sure if Dad would be home for the labor and birth (and thankfully he was!). Momma had a long hard labor but she showed me how strong and amazing women's bodies truly are. I definitely cried going through the images afterward! Here's a sampling of some of my favorites that help tell this sweet baby boy's birth story. Thank you C Family for allowing me to be a part of this special day and trusting me to document it! (This is just a sprinkling of images, if you are friend/family and want to see the full story, ask Mom to see her slideshow!)
