Shop Local Guide for 2017 | Saint Marys GA - Kingsland GA - Fernandina Beach FLThe holiday season is upon us and some of us may have already started shopping for gifts or are at least making our lists. Even though this season is so much more than gifts, I love giving gifts just the same. As a small business owner, I make it a priority to support other local small businesses throughout the year as much as I can, and especially when shopping for the holidays. When we purchase from a small business, we're helping our neighbor pay their bills and send their kids to music lessons. Even when budgets are tight, you can at least get a few things at local stores instead of buying it at a big chain or on Amazon. Plus, you can find more unique items when you shop local! So this year, I visited each of my favorite local shops and took a few photos to feature in this post (and made my Christmas wishlist while I was out too!). I have included shops in both St Marys/Kingsland and Fernandina Beach since I have clients in both places and I spend a lot of time in both places too. I hope you'll make a pledge to shop at a couple of these stores!
Shop Local - St Marys & Kingsland, GA
Southern Saint Boutique - St Marys, GA My first feature for St Marys is a new shop that I've been dying to check out and I'm so glad I did! I was taking photos of things and sending them to my husband to add to my Christmas list! It took a lot to not just buy something for myself while there. They have really cute clothing and accessories. Most of their jewelry is handmade and everything is southern inspired. If you haven't been in to check out this shop yet, I highly recommend you go! They're located on Osborne St, across from J's Tavern (on the left before St Marys Elementary). Then pop in next door at Cottle & Gunn for more gift shopping.
Once Upon a Bookseller - St Marys, GA As a book lover, of course there is going to be a bookstore on my list! We have a great little bookstore in St Marys to buy that "something to read" for Christmas. There were some really fun Christmas books available too (pictured) and there are some unique local finds as well. They're located in downtown St Marys on Osborne St (right side when heading towards the water).
Market on the Square - St Marys, GA This adorable little gift shop should definitely be on your list of places to stop and shop. There's a huge variety of gift items for just about anyone on your list. A few of the things they carry include Natural Life, Simply Southern T-Shirts, bath bombs with a surprise inside, toys, beach-y decor, private label dressings and jellies, flags, scarves and accessories. I have my eye on a couple of the scarves! And you can't forget the fudge and ice-cream, even if you're just in town for a train ride, you should stop in to grab a treat! They are located down on the waterfront on the corner of Osborne and St Marys St.
Satilla Boardsports - Kingsland, GA & Yulee, FL Satilla Boardsports is one of my favorite places to get flip flops, they have the BEST flip flops I've ever worn and since I wear them mostly year-round, having a good, comfortable pair is vital! It's also one of the best places in town to shop for your favorite hippy, surfer/beach lover, or skateboarder. They carry clothing for men, women, and kids too. They are located in the Publix shopping center in Kingsland and the Midtown Plaza in Yulee (corner of Hwy 17 & A1A).
Beyond Fabric - Kingsland, GA I love to sew, so having a local fabric store has been wonderful! If you sew, you should definitely stop in and check out the selection. They do free demos every other Monday to help you learn how to create various projects. They are located across from Publix in Kingsland, GA.
Shop Local - Fernandina Beach, FL If you're out shopping in Fernandina, don't forget to stop by Amelia Island Coffee for a drink/snack or one of the many restaurants for something to eat. Timoti's Seafood Shack is one of my favorites!
Color it Green - Fernandina Beach, FL I discovered this lovely eco-friendly shop on Instagram and then followed them on Facebook too. I've been oodling over the beautiful things they've posted and wanting to stop in and check them out for a while. I finally made it in and there are so many beautiful things! This is a great stop for gift shopping. They carry unique gift items, locally made items like the coasters and pottery in the photo above (I bought a couple for a gift, but really want to keep them for myself!) and the amber necklaces from my favorite Amber Dreams Jewelry, recycled wine bottle candles, clothing, jewelry, and other eco-friendly items. They have items for kids and pets too! They're located on Centre St. (Photos taken in 2017 at their old location.)
Villa Villekulla Toy Store - Fernandina Beach, FL If toys are on your list of things to buy for the holidays, you really need to stop in this store. They have so many great quality toys and educational toys that you can't find in most stores. I discovered this store during the Dickens on Centre event (which I highly recommend) and I'm so glad I did! From Hape, Green Toys, and Tegu blocks for little ones, to MagnaTiles, Playmobil, and Mindware, there's something for every age. They have some really cool science kits and a variety of classic toys and games. Harry Potter fans will want to note that they have 3 different Harry Potter games! And Crazy Aarons Thinking Putty is the perfect stocking stuffer for almost any age! They are located on S 2nd Street in downtown Fernandina Beach.
The Book Loft - Fernandina Beach, FL Ok, so there are two bookstores on my list, but I just had to include The Book Loft for those shopping in Fernandina! It's an amazing, old-school bookstore with a wide-selection for any age. There are places to sit and get lost in a book while you're there too! They also carry some of the best puzzles, Ravensburger puzzles, and Usborne & Kane Miller books (which I recently became a consultant for because the books are awesome and I want them all, haha!). There are books by local authors and I also discovered recently that they have used books upstairs. They are located on Centre St in downtown Fernandina Beach.
Whether you check out a few of my favorite local stores or a few of your favorites, I wish you the best of luck with your holiday shopping! If you have a favorite that I haven't listed, I'd love to hear about it so I can check them out! <3 Kim Owner/Artist-Photographer Kimberly Tank Art & Photography
