Celebrating Moms in Front of the Camera | Saint Marys - Fernandina Beach Photographer
Moms... it's so important to get in front of the camera. So often we are the ones always behind the camera taking the pictures of our children and family (especially those of you who are photographers). But how often are you getting in font of the camera too? It's not for your benefit, but for the benefit of our children. Will they have photographs from their childhood with you in them? I guarantee they aren't going to think, gee mom should have done XYZ before having a picture done with me. When my son is grown, I want him to see that I was there too, that I wasn't just on the sidelines taking the pictures of the fun but that I was having fun with him too. I want him to have photographs that help him remember this time in our lives.
My mom frequently avoided the camera but thankfully I do have a few snapshots with her in them of when I was little. But I wish I had more. My mom and I have always been really close and I wish I had photographs from when I was younger of the two of us showing how close we've always been. Of course as I got older (and became more obsessed with taking photos), I have dismissed the "I don't like my picture taken" (and she's actually gotten a lot better about it), and insisted on having pictures with her in them, both candid and professional. And I've made it a point to make sure my son has great pictures of him with his grandparents too. There are very few photos of me with any of my grandparents, who had all passed before I graduated high school.
Because once we're gone, the only thing we leave behind are the memories our loved ones hold... and photographs. Photographs help us keep those happy memories from fading and go back to that time in our lives. This has become a big driver for me as a photographer and wanting to help families preserve their memories and create the legacy they'll leave behind one day. Especially encouraging mom to be in the photos for more than just the family sessions.
Here are the moms I photographed with their children in May and June. I know these will be treasured for many years to come <3.
