He and his brother have such a close bond and it was so much fun to capture them together, whether giggling and laughing or big brother reading Baby B a book. You can see how much they love each other! And it doesn't stop there, because you could just feel the love throughout this whole session with the whole family. This is what I love to capture, these moments of connection and love that families share. Since this was also a milestone session, the focus was on Baby B while still including the rest of the family. They grow so fast in the first year and I love getting to watch them grow and help capture this time that seems to fly by in a blur.

I loved so many of these in black and white too, so I've included a mix. From giggles with brother, to drooly smiles, to a nursing break, and flying in the air with Daddy, here are some favorites from Baby B's session!

Father's Day Gift Guide http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2018/5/fathers-day-gift-guide father son photo - Fernandina Beach FLFather's Day Gift GuideCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Mother's Day has passed and it's time to start thinking about Father's Day. I've put together a list of ideas in case you are scratching your head this year. (Thankfully I came up with a great idea for my hubby earlier this year so all we have left is a craft/card from my son!) For these, I've tried to separate by what Dad might enjoy doing and have tried to include links for local places to go when possible.

For the Dad who likes to fish...  St Marys GAFather & Son FishingCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Fishing Rods  - Last year, I bought fishing rods for my husband and one for my son, as well as some basic fishing supplies to get them started, and gave them to him for Father's Day so they could go fishing together. They've been doing this a good bit lately and really enjoy the time together. I loved fishing with my dad when I was a kid (though part of it was getting hot chocolate and fresh donuts on our way to the lake haha!)

Fishing Charter - If Dad already has a great fishing rod, you could book him a fishing charter. Two local places with great ratings (though I have no personal experience with them) are Angler Outfitters & Charter Fishing (where you could also grab some new fishing goodies for Dad) and Amelia Island Charter Fishing

For the Dad who likes baseball...

little leagueFather & Son - Baseball GameCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Tickets to a Baseball Game - This is what I opted for this year. My husband is a huge Chicago Cubs fan and I had the perfect opportunity to get us all tickets to see a game this summer. We like to do experiences for gifts when we can, and being able to watch a Cubs game with his family is going to be so much fun! If you can't travel for your hubby's favorite team, you could always go see The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Dad can still share his love of baseball with his kiddos. Some of my favorite memories with my Dad when I was a kid was going to see the Cleveland Indians games.

For the Dad who likes tools/woodworking...

Dad & Son WoodworkingCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Gift Card - I know, this one doesn't feel as personal. But let's face it, when it comes to tools, it's better for them to pick it out unless they've circled several options for you in a catalog or made a wish list online. (It's like if my husband tried buying me something photography related without me giving him a very specific list of options with links to the items... he's likely to get something wrong, haha!)

Class/Workshop - Sign Dad up for a class or workshop to learn a new skill. For the woodworkers, Woodcraft of Jacksonville has classes regularly that would make a great gift. (They have other locations if you aren't local to Jacksonville.)

Magazine Subscription - This is another good option for Dads who might want to learn more or get different ideas for projects.

For all Dads...

Amelia Island FLDaddy & Son Fun at the BeachCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Food - Let's face it, guys love food! From a nice big breakfast to a well planned dinner with Dad's favorite foods, don't forget this one on Father's Day.

Homemade Crafts from the Kid(s) - Handmade gifts were always a big hit with my dad. Whether you do a big craft or just a homemade card, here's a list to get you started if you don't want to spend forever on Pinterest (like I did looking for a decent list to share haha!). It's a great way to get the kids involved, especially when they're little.

Photographs - Of course this list would not be complete (or on my blog!) without including photos! And this doesn't need to be a professional session with Dad. You could take some photos of Dad with the kids yourself and then print them out and put them in a frame. (If you want to know how to do this better, sign up for my email list for your free guide to taking better photos or check out my camera class!) If you prefer not to DIY, you could book a session for just you and the kids so you can give him a great photo to keep on his desk at work (and you'll have great photos with your kiddos too!).

What will you do for Dad this year? Drop me a comment and let me know!

High School Senior Session at the Ball Field & Beach | Amelia Island Senior Photography http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2018/4/high-school-senior-session-at-the-ball-field-beach-amelia-island-senior-photography I'm super excited to be offering lifestyle senior sessions and doubly excited that I was able to capture this time for this special high school senior. Senior sessions are all about celebrating who the senior is, their passions, and their dreams as the enter into adulthood. My goal is to showcase who the senior is and capture this exciting time in their lives while giving the senior a fun experience! After talking with each senior and reading through their answers to the questionnaire, I can come up with a plan to incorporate who they are into the session. Portraits are nice, but a photo that really captures the essence of who they are will be treasured for a lifetime.

Miss M is graduating from Camden County High School and is headed to Valdosta State so we incorporated her t-shirt into the softball portion of her session. Softball has been a big part of her life so we did a few "pretend you're playing softball" photos and just a few fun ones at the field.

Miss M also loves having out at the beach, so we headed to the Fernandina Beach for the second portion of her session to have some more fun! She's also been learning how to play the guitar so we included that for some of these too.  Amelia Island - Fernandina Beach, FLSenior Photo SessionCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Spring Clean Your Personal Photos http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2018/4/spring-clean-your-personal-photos

It's spring, though the weather doesn't always feel like it lately, and it's time for spring cleaning! I actually cleaned my windows the other day, woohoo! Next is the carpet so I can get rid of all the awful pollen we've had that's making me horribly sneezy. All. The. Time. But this blog post isn't about the spring clean we usually do around the house. This is about cleaning and organizing your photos. Yes, all those photos you have on your computer and your phone and haven't done anything with. It may feel like a monstrous task that you just really don't have time for, but when you break down the tasks and commit to just 10 minutes a day, it will get done! Everyone has just 10 minutes each day they can reallocate, like substituting 10 minutes of social media scrolling for 10 minutes working on organizing your personal photos so you can actually print and enjoy them! Here are some tips to get our started.

1 - Let's start with images on your phone. Go through and start deleting. Yes, delete! You don't need 5 images that are almost all exactly the same. So often, we are taking several photos of the same moment in hopes to catch one that's good and then we never delete the bad ones. So go through and delete anything that you wouldn't print in an album. It's easier to go through older images once the moment has passed and you can better choose the best ones to keep and delete all the rest. For any images you want to keep on your phone, for whatever reason, make folders to store those so you have them organized and easier to get back to view or share them.

2 - The next step is to get those photos onto your computer. Plug that baby in and transfer those images over to your computer. Put them in a temporary folder to organize later. Then delete them off your phone.

3 - Now that the photos from your phone are on your computer, make sure photos from any other cameras that you use are on your computer too.

4 - It's folder time. Decide what folder organization system you want to use and create those folders today. Personally, I have a folder for every year and then I have subfolders for each quarter and within those might be a folder for a vacation or special event. You might want a folder for each month or folders for photo type like nature/wildlife, landscapes, sunsets, etc.

5 -  This next step is optional but it's something I like to do to help me keep everything organized better. I go through at add the date to the front of the filename of each image. So if the filename is xyz123 and it was taken on August 3, 2017 (when you click on the image you will see the date created in the file information), I will change it to 20170803-xyz123. You might just want to do the year and month, or label it with it's category or location, it's totally up to you. This is the most tedious and time consuming step if you don't have a program that will allow you to export them with the date and filename (I use Lightroom for this sometimes). Remember, 10 minutes a day. You'll be amazed at how much you can get done in 10 minutes!

6 - Next, move those files into the appropriate folders that you have created. This will be the easiest step if you've renamed your files.

7 - Go back through your images and delete any duplicates or not-so-great photos that you may have missed or that were from your camera instead of your phone.

8 - Now that you're organized, it's time to print! Everyone can enjoy them once they're printed into an album and off the computer. For a list of album companies and pros/cons, head over to this post

9 - Stay organized by taking time once a week to go through your photos on your phone and delete the ones you don't need to keep. then at least once a month, upload photos from your phone and/or camera to your computer and rename them and put them into folders.

Hope this helps you get organized and don't forget to print!

Styled Family Session | Award Winning Family & Child Photographer | St Marys GA http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2018/3/styled-family-session-award-winning-family-child-photographer-st-marys-ga Touches of lace and flower crowns, what's not to love? This sweet family is always styled so well for their photo sessions and this session was no different. It was time to update photos of the whole family together so we went back to the last place they had them done the last time (which was 3 years ago!). The historic area was the perfect backdrop for their clothing and everyone is stylish without being too trendy (which can date a photo). The colors all go together without being matchy-matchy and having everyone in the same color. By choosing colors that go well together in a color palette, it encourages the eye to move around while looking at the photos without distracting from the subjects. The texture of the lace adds another element of interest to the photos as well. And those flower crowns, by Lavender Grace in St Marys, were the perfect finishing touch for the ladies. These will go perfectly on their walls in their home!

Here are some of my favorites from the session. Whenever it's important to the family to have everyone looking at the camera, I always do what I can to make that happen. And then we have some fun too!

100 Days of Connor & Jack: A Boy and His Dog | Child and Pet Photographer | St Marys GA http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2018/3/100-days-of-connor-jack-a-boy-and-his-dog-child-and-pet-photographer-st-marys-ga The idea for this project has been something I've thought about for the last two years. Ever since I took these photos of my son and our German Shepherd, Zoe, before she passed. Zoe was so good with him and they were great buddies. I loved capturing their special relationship as my son grew and it became even more apparent once she was gone, how important these photos were. I wanted to do a bigger project capturing children and their special relationships with their pets. The year following our loss of Zoe, I wasn't ready. And then last year I chose to focus on moms having fun with their kids and pushed off this idea again.

Then we brought Jack home over Memorial Day weekend last year. He is my son's dog; and watching them grow together has been so much fun (and sometimes not so fun when they get on each other's nerves, haha). I knew I wanted my 100 Days project this year to focus on capturing their relationship. It's been the perfect way to start my year. This project is part of a bigger project I am working on to capture kids and their pets. I have some plans and goals for this project that I'm pretty excited about, but I'm not telling just yet! I do need more models, though, so if you live in the St Marys - Amelia Island area and your child (any age up to 18) has a special bond with their pet, I'd love to photograph them! Send me an email and I'll send you more info on participating in this project.

Ok, back to Connor and Jack.... here are some of my favorites from the first half of the project. If you'd like to see them all, head over to my Instagram and follow along!

I met Nichole a few years ago through La Leche League but it wasn't until this last year that I've actually gotten to know her better and learned that she is a Reiki Master. I'd heard of Reiki before and it had been something I wanted to try. I finally booked a session with Nichole in late fall and honestly didn't know what to expect or what exactly a Reiki session entailed. Fall is a busy, often stressful, season and I am so glad I went to see Nichole. It was a warm and relaxing experience and I got some insight and confirmation on some things I had on my mind too. It really helped me feel calm, less stressed, and more balanced. When I went to see her for a second time, it had been a few months and I felt totally out of whack and left feeling so much better emotionally and physically too.

So when I thought about who I'd like to feature for my first Small Business Spotlight for 2018, I immediately thought of Nichole. I'm so happy to share more about her with you!

Tell us about your business. What services/products do you offer?

Soulshine Reiki Healing is all about Energy Healing! I am an Intuitive Life Coach & Reiki Master specializing in happiness. I work with awakening, heart-centered women who struggle with self-doubt and needing permission to act on her desires to help her instead learn to love herself and connect to her intuition so she can feel confident fulfilling her desires and life purpose. I use a variety of energy healing modalities such as Reiki, sound therapy, crystal therapy, archangel therapy & aromatherapy. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress relief & relaxation. Reiki and energy work is performed by light touch from the Reiki Master, at the main chakra points and various other energy centers throughout the body. It can feel warm and tingly as you release energy that is no longer serving your best interest.

What inspired you to open your business?

I started my journey as a healer in 2015 after realizing I was DONE living a life on auto-pilot, full of people pleasing, needing permission to do what I wanted and codependency. My self-doubt and lack of self-love and knowing myself really fed into my fears of never being good enough. I didn’t trust myself; in fact, I trusted my husband and family more. Once our second son was born in 2015, I was living my dream life as a stay at home mother, and I truly felt my new circumstances would make me happy, in reality, I had NEVER felt so empty and unhappy as I did then. It was such a hard time for me, I was really unable to enjoy and be present in life, even though I felt like I should be happy. Enter major codependency: I kept looking to my husband to tell me what makes me happy and fulfilled, I was DESPERATE for him to pull me out of this funk. Day after day, he couldn’t help me and I got so fed up that I decided the only way to happiness was to finally have the courage to get to know myself and what I wanted so I could finally love myself, feel confident and find my purpose. This was huge for me, because I had felt so guilty for not being happy as a stay at home mother with my children, but I knew I had to change something because I certainly didn't like who I was.

Who is your biggest inspiration in life/business?

Melissa Ambrosini is a huge inspiration in both my personal life and business because she was able to overcome her co-dependency and inner mean girl in order to open her dream business and is success at doing so because she trusts and loves herself.

What is your favorite quote?

If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present. ~Lao Tzu

What do you love most about what you do?

Connecting to other women through their pain and helping them to realize they have a choice and they can heal; that there is more to life than suffering, that they deserve happiness.

business branding photosNichole Causey - Reiki Master & Intuitive Life CoachCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography LLC

What is your biggest success with your business to date? What are you most proud of?

My ribbon cutting is still a day I am very fond of. I fought long and hard to believe in myself and my ability to open my Reiki practice and when the day came I was overwhelmed with gratitude for myself and the universe. I was proud I did not give up on my deepest desires and I was also overcome by all the support my friends showed me as they kept showing up, one by one, to witness this special moment in my life. I think it will always be one of my biggest successes in my business because there were so many times I almost believed my limiting beliefs of not being good enough to open my own healing business.

small business branding sessionSoulshine Reiki Healing - Amelia Island FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography LLC

Do you have a memorable moment in your business that you can share with us?

My most favorite memories are when women are working hard to heal themselves outside of my office and are doing homework I assign them, taking care of themselves and setting proper boundaries. One in particular was recently a woman who kept telling me she had pain around her solar plexus and as we started talking we were discussing how she felt worthless to most of her loved ones. I was so heart-broken for her and could certainly relate but as soon as I explained that the solar plexus is the powerhouse of our identity; including limiting beliefs, I could begin to see her relax and let go of negative energy. We did a reiki session and she had some large releases in her solar plexus. She couldn’t believe how she felt afterwards and what a difference her pain level was.

What can your clients expect from you when they book with you?

I do both local and distance healing and either way it is the same. We discuss the major reasons for coming in and what they’d like to see change in their life and sometimes what part of their body is physically bothering them most, so we can connect an emotional reason to it. After we come up with a plan, we do the reiki session (45-50 minutes) and afterwards I give a chakra analysis. Chakras are you major energy centers—a popular one you’d know is your heart! I like to tell my clients which ones I focused on and what the overall theme of the session was.

Name three local businesses you love and why.

Color it Green! The women who own and operate it are some of the kindest souls I have ever met and have helped me to grow my business to where it is today. PLUS- everything they sell gives back to the ocean and conserving what we’ve got left of it!

Joanna Glisson Yates is a local personal trainer who concentrates on functional movement and retraining your body. You see, I am an ex dancer, retraining my body to work out in proper form PLUS let go of old injuries has been a huge goal for me! Joanna has the physical trainer background; including functional movement as well as energy knowledge. She can tell when I have a blocked chakra and gives me exercises to work it out! Shes almost like me but a personal trainer!

Precision Chiropractic. Dr Kevin Lin helped me when I was pregnant with Emmett in regards to comfort level. I was in a lot of pain from  a weak pelvic floor and misalignment. I have since went back and see him 2x a month now for a neck/shoulder/back injury THAT IS 10 YEARS old. The pain has been debilitating throughout 10 years and I tried everything- chiropractor, physical therapy, MRI’s, cat scans, etc I can go on. His philosophy is very different, he basically believes if your head is aligned the rest of your body will align too, so I’ve seen a dramatic decrease in my neck/shoulder and back pain in such a short amount of time! I had given up ALL hope in ever feeling better and hes showing me that not only my body is getting better but also my stress responses are getting better---less triggered. He does a complete exam, including stress response by pulse and questionnaires. Its amazing.

Date Night - Connect and Have Fun http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2018/2/date-night---connect-and-have-fun Valentine's Day is just around the corner. I've been working on a list of ideas for date nights for myself and my husband for the year, and I thought I'd share them for anyone else who needs some ideas. For those who don't know, my husband is Navy and was away for about 8 years being a geo-bachelor (that's a long story for another day), and finally got a shore duty last year, which was thankfully here so we didn't have to move! He's now been home for just over a year straight, which is the longest stretch we've been together in our entire relationship (3 years dating and 13.5 years married). It has been soooo amazing having him home and not having to go out to sea or be stationed elsewhere. We took the time we needed to adjust to our new routine as a family and we've mostly found our groove. We realize that now being parents, our date nights need to be scheduled and aren't so fly by the seat of our pants like they used to be. It's important to make sure we make that time to connect with each other and have adult conversation. We've even chosen a night a week to be our night to stay up late together no matter what time our son goes to bed so that we can have some one-on-one time together.

And now for the list. Most of these are dates we have done in the past year or have on our list to do this year (and are in no particular order). A few were recommendations from friends.  If you have other ideas, I'd love to hear about them! (A couple photos included are of my husband and me, but others are just of clients. I love getting a photo of mom and dad by themselves at family sessions!)

Bowling

Bowling is one of those classic things I still love to do, even though I'm kind of a terrible bowler, ha! My husband has his own ball and is much better than I am. I like that we can do something fun together but still be able to have a conversation (unlike when going see a movie). It's also super budget friendly for when the budget might be a little tight. We love to go to the Rack 'N Roll Lanes on base. For those of you who are not military, there's Nassau Bowling Center in Yulee and Bowl America in Jacksonville (there are 3 locations).

*Note: I have not been to the bowling alleys in Yulee or Fernandina but wanted to mention them so you can check them out if you like.

Dinner & Walk on the Beach

Another go-to date night for us is dinner and a walk on the beach. We are big beach lovers and we even enjoyed this kind of date before having our son. Whether we go grab a bite to eat at a restaurant or bring a picnic dinner to the beach, it never gets old for us. The picnic option is another budget-friendly option if you don't want to spend a lot of money beyond the sitter. And again, this kind of date gives you lots of time to just be together and have a conversation without your kids interrupting. There may be a theme here, haha. Communication is such an important part of a healthy relationship and for us, it seems like one of the biggest challenges now that we have a child and our schedules don't allow for much time together just the two of us.

Dinner & Walk Downtown St Marys or Fernandina Beach

Another date night we've done and enjoyed is grabbing dinner at a favorite restaurant (or even bringing a picnic dinner to the waterfront park in St Marys) and then just walking around downtown. The waterfront park in St Marys is a great place to just hang out and enjoy each other's company. You could also visit some of the local shops and support small businesses while your there. There are several good restaurants where you can grab some dinner too. There's entertainment on the first Fridays throughout downtown and in the summer, there's a free concert in the park on the second Saturdays.

We also really love walking around downtown Fernandina Beach. There are so many great places to eat and shop or just hang out for a bit at the coffee shop. First Friday's they have an Art Walk and the art galleries are open later. I'd love to go do that sometime soon. Our most recent date was just before New Year's and we went to Timoti's for dinner and then to Amelia Island Coffee for a warm beverage. We spent most of our evening talking about 2017, our first full year together, and reflecting on what we loved doing together and as a family and what we could do less of. We made a bucket list for 2018, a list of things we wanted to make sure we made room for and what we wanted to do both together and as a family. On another date in the fall, we may or may not have ended up in the awesome toy store downtown, Villa Villekulla Toys, and ran into another couple we know who were also on a date and without kids, in the toy store.

Miniature Golf

Yes, in case you haven't figure it out by now, we are pretty low-key people (ok we might be a little boring sometimes but we're ok with that, haha) and don't need a lot of excitement for our dates. The important thing for us is to have the time together, just the two of us. We actually did mini golf dates before becoming parents, and they're fun for the whole family too, but that doesn't mean they can't still be fun for just the two of us too! There's a simple course here in town at Crooked River State Park and then you could go for a hike or bike ride if you're doing an earlier date and like outdoors stuff. They also do sunset boat cruises which might be another option if you go in the evening. Then there's Island Falls Adventure Golf in Fernandina Beach, which we have also done and enjoyed. Then you can grab some pizza at Moon River Pizza or 1000 Degrees Neapolitan Pizza. If you want to head north and spend an afternoon or evening on Jekyll Island, we've enjoyed their course there, Jekyll Island Miniature Golf, and then a host of other activities you could also do while you're there. If you're in Jacksonville, Adventure Landing is a fun place for miniature golf and has other activities as well. Date NightCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography, LLC

Horseback Ride on the Beach

Ok, this has been on our to-do list for probably over 10 years, so this year we are determined to finally do this! I found three options on Amelia Island: Kelly's Seahorse Ranch, Happy Trails Walking Horses, and Amelia Island Horseback Riding. There's also Golden Isles Carriage and Trail at Three Oaks Farm on Jekyll Island (they also do carriage rides, that might need to go on our to-do list too!). If you've ever done this, I'd love to know which place you went with and how your experience was!

Class or Workshop

This wasn't originally on our list as we hadn't thought about it, but I think it needs to be added for sure! I recently discovered Paisley Grace Designs in Fernandina Beach through the Network of Women (a women's networking group I just joined), and after being there for a meeting, I really want to go back and do one of the workshops she offers. There are so many projects to choose from and there are couples projects too. You (or your partner) don't need to be crafty to do one of the projects, so I think I may be able to convince my husband to do one! Then I had a friend suggest taking a class through The Studios at Florida School of Holistic Health. I had never heard of them, so I headed to the website and it looks awesome! I might need to do some convincing on that one too, but I would totally love to take one (or more) of the classes they offer. We missed the Art of Making Rootbeer but if they offer it again in the future I might be able to convince him to do that one with me.  Date NightCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography, LLC

Escape Room

I've recently seen friends posting on social media about going to an escape room and it sounds like something my husband would LOVE to do. This would also make a good group date. You get put into a room with clues on how to "break out" and you have an hour to do so. There's one in Fernandina: Amelia Island Escape Rooms, and two in Jacksonville that I know others have gone to: Mind Bender Escape Rooms and The Great Escape Room. It sounds like it'd be a lot of fun!
Date NightCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography, LLC

Painting

Another suggested date night option was a painting night. I love to pain but my husband, not so much, so while this isn't on our list, it might be something fun you'd like to look into. There's a studio in Kingsland: Camden Art Parties; and there's a place in Jacksonville that was recommended to me: Painting with a TwistDate NightCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography, LLC

If you have any other suggestions for date night ideas, I'd love to hear them! And if you've tried any of the ones listed here, I'd love to know what you thought.

Organic In-Home Newborn Session | Award Winning Newborn Photographer - Kingsland GA http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/12/organic-in-home-newborn-session-award-winning-newborn-photographer---kingsland-ga Ok, the craziest thing happened.... I remember writing this blog post (and even checked it off on my workflow chart), but it is nowhere to be found! Perhaps I imagined it and it fell through the cracks of the busy fall season, but this session needs to be shared!

This sweet baby girl was welcomed into the world right before everyone evacuated for Hurricane Irma. I photographed her the day after we returned and she rocked her session.

Mom had this beautiful swaddle blanket and I love incorporating special items into my client's sessions. These photos are even more precious and meaningful when something personal is incorporated.

I love getting in close for the little details so parents can remember those tiny features as the little ones grow and change. We did a mixture of color and black and white and I love the simplicity and timelessness of these. I also love a good profile. They'll never be this tiny again. Timeless In-Home Newborn Photography | Kingsland, GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Little Miss N was doing so well sleeping through her session so I asked if Mom and Dad had anything else they wanted me to capture as I always try to have clients be apart of the creative process in a session... and Dad went and brought out a Harry Potter blanket. As a huge Harry Potter fan myself, I was excited to incorporate this into their session! They had a couple scarves, a wand, and of course the full set of books, so I wrapped baby up in one of the scarves and set the other with the books and the wand behind her.  Harry Potter Newborn PhotosFun In-Home Newborn Photography | Kingsland, GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

I had to get an overhead shot as well of the blanket.  Harry Potter Newborn PhotosFun In-Home Newborn Photography | Kingsland, GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

We finished up with a few more photos by the windows with mom and baby and the new family. You can really feel the love in these photographs.  Timeless In-Home Newborn Photography | Kingsland, GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Timeless In-Home Newborn Photography | Kingsland, GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Thank you A Family for commissioning me to capture and preserve this precious milestone in your lives as you welcomed your new baby girl.

Six Year Old Cowboy | Award Winning Child Photographer St Marys GA http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/12/six-year-old-cowboy-award-winning-child-photographer-st-marys-ga Mr. G was having a cowboy party for his 6th birthday so we took some cowboy pictures for him this year. And I just can't... he is too much, he is so stinking cute! And how is he already six? That means my son is almost six too and sometimes I really don't know where the time has gone. And those missing two front teeth really add to the state of adorableness for this cute cowboy.

We started by a wooden fence and captured some typical cowboy shots and Mr G totally rocked it. We ventured away from the fence for a few too and had to get a hat tossing in as well.

In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session | Award Winning Newborn Photographer Jacksonville FL http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/12/in-home-lifestyle-newborn-session-award-winning-newborn-photographer-jacksonville-fl Little Miss A was recently welcomed into the world and I had the honor of capturing her beautiful newborn photos. As always, Mom did an impeccable job with wardrobe. We kept things laid back and mixed things up when needed for the little ones. When things started getting a little crazy, we just went with it! We managed to get some beautiful photos to hang on the wall and a few other fun ones too. With in-home lifestyle sessions, we can keep everyone more relaxed and comfortable in the own environment, no need to pack everyone up and head to a studio, and we get to capture that piece of real life as a new baby is welcomed home. The focus on family and relationships gives you images you'll always want to keep on your walls. Here are some of my favorites from this session.

You would never know that the younger big sister was really not into sitting still for photos that morning. Well you'll see more of that later!

Why sit still when jumping on the bed is so much fun? This is what real life with 3 kids looks like! Miss E totally stole the show on this one, it's kind of perfect, haha! Miss M was trying to hard to calm baby sister and Miss E was over trying to sit.

So we tried laying down and this one is so sweet.  Beautiful In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session - Jacksonville FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Big sister M was so great with little Miss A.

Littles took a break and we took some photos of just mom, dad, and baby.  Beautiful In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session - Jacksonville FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Beautiful In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session - Jacksonville FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

We switched out wraps and did some with just Miss A. This is one of my favorites of Miss A by herself. She wanted her arms and I love how relied and peaceful she looks.  Beautiful In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session - Jacksonville FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

We tried for one of Miss E with Miss A. Maybe if we airplane Miss E over to Miss A... ok maybe not! Miss A decided that wasn't a good idea but I still love this photo! Beautiful In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session - Jacksonville FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

We did manage to get a beautiful photo of the two of them. It's one of my all time favorite sibling shots.  Beautiful In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session - Jacksonville FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

I love capturing real life moments like this. We attempted a different family shot on the bed and this was the perfect real life moment with 3 kids.

Mom had this beautiful swaddle blanket we just had to use for this session (and the colors coordinated to well too!). Little Miss A decided to give us a sweet sleep smile and even giggled. It was the sweetest thing! Beautiful In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session - Jacksonville FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Then it was time to get just mom and baby. I absolutely love these and the beautiful connection captured between mom and her third baby girl.  Beautiful In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session - Jacksonville FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography Beautiful In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session - Jacksonville FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

This family loves to put family artwork on their walls and this was one of the walls I designed and installed for them. (The bottom left newborn photo of Miss M was not taken by me). Capturing beautiful photos for my clients is only part of what I do. I want to make sure those photos are preserved and turned into beautiful works of art to be displayed in the home, whether it's wall art or an album. Installation is always included on ready to hang wall art pieces to make this process as easy for you as possible.

This family is so full of love and I love capturing these moments for them. Thank you R family for continuing to trust me with preserving your memories.

Shop Local Guide for 2017 | Saint Marys GA - Kingsland GA - Fernandina Beach FL http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/11/shop-local-guide-for-2017-saint-marys-ga---kingsland-ga---fernandina-beach-fl The holiday season is upon us and some of us may have already started shopping for gifts or are at least making our lists. Even though this season is so much more than gifts, I love giving gifts just the same. As a small business owner, I make it a priority to support other local small businesses throughout the year as much as I can, and especially when shopping for the holidays. When we purchase from a small business, we're helping our neighbor pay their bills and send their kids to music lessons. Even when budgets are tight, you can at least get a few things at local stores instead of buying it at a big chain or on Amazon. Plus, you can find more unique items when you shop local! So this year, I visited each of my favorite local shops and took a few photos to feature in this post (and made my Christmas wishlist while I was out too!). I have included shops in both St Marys/Kingsland and Fernandina Beach since I have clients in both places and I spend a lot of time in both places too. I hope you'll make a pledge to shop at a couple of these stores!

Shop Local - St Marys & Kingsland, GA

Many of the shops featured are having sales this weekend and there's a scavenger hunt with prizes on Saturday Starting at Simply Save On Gifts in St Marys. Don't forget to stop at one of the great restaurants downtown to refuel! Riverside Cafe is one of my favorites.

Shop Local Guide 2017 | Southern Saint Boutique - St Marys GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Southern Saint Boutique - St Marys, GA

My first feature for St Marys is a new shop that I've been dying to check out and I'm so glad I did! I was taking photos of things and sending them to my husband to add to my Christmas list! It took a lot to not just buy something for myself while there. They have really cute clothing and accessories. Most of their jewelry is handmade and everything is southern inspired. If you haven't been in to check out this shop yet, I highly recommend you go! They're located on Osborne St, across from J's Tavern (on the left before St Marys Elementary).

Shop Local Guide 2017 | Once Upon a Bookseller - St Marys, GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Once Upon a Bookseller - St Marys, GA

As a book lover, of course there is going to be a bookstore on my list! We have a great little bookstore in St Marys to buy that "something to read" for Christmas. There were some really fun Christmas books available too (pictured) and there are some unique local finds as well. And if you stop in on Small Business Saturday, there's a special surprise for you! They're located in downtown St Marys on Osborne St (right side when heading towards the water).

Shop Local Guide 2017 | Market on the Square - St Marys, GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Market on the Square - St Marys, GA

This adorable little gift shop should definitely be on your list of places to stop and shop. There's a huge variety of gift items for just about anyone on your list. A few of the things they carry include Natural Life, Simply Southern T-Shirts, bath bombs with a surprise inside, toys, beach-y decor, private label dressings and jellies, flags, scarves and accessories. I have my eye on a couple of the scarves! And you can't forget the fudge and ice-cream, even if you're just in town for a train ride, you should stop in to grab a treat! They are located down on the waterfront on the corner of Osborne and St Marys St.

Shop Local Guide 2017 | Satilla Bordsports - St Marys, GA & Yulee, FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Satilla Boardsports - Kingsland, GA & Yulee, FL

Satilla Boardsports is one of my favorite places to get flip flops, they have the BEST flip flops I've ever worn and since I wear them mostly year-round, having a good, comfortable pair is vital! (And they're having a sale on their footwear and sunglasses this week!) It's also one of the best places in town to shop for your favorite hippy, surfer/beach lover, or skateboarder. They carry clothing for men, women, and kids too. I have my eye on a tank there that says "Beach Hair Don't Care", there was only one left the other day so I'm hoping hubby gets there before someone else buys it! They are located in the Publix shopping center in Kingsland and the Midtown Plaza in Yulee (corner of Hwy 17 & A1A).

Shop Local Guide 2017 | Beyond Fabric - Kingsland, GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Beyond Fabric - Kingsland, GA

I love to sew, so having a local fabric store has been wonderful! If you sew, you should definitely stop in and check out the selection. They're having a sale Friday and I'll be heading back in there to get Christmas fabric for matching pj pants for my family, some avenger fabric for extra pj pants for my son, and some home fabric to make curtains for my living room. There will be local crafters/makers there on Saturday as well so be sure to stop by! They also do free demos every other Monday to help you learn how to create various projects. They are located across from Publix in Kingsland, GA.

Shop Local - Fernandina Beach, FL

If you're out shopping Friday morning, come in your pjs for the annual Downtown Fernandina Pajama Party! And don't forget to stop by Amelia Island Coffee for a drink/snack or one of the many restaurants for something to eat. Timoti's Seafood Shack is one of my favorites!

Shop Local Guide 2017 | Color It Green - Fernandina Beach, FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Color it Green - Fernandina Beach, FL

I discovered this lovely eco-friendly shop on Instagram and then followed them on Facebook too. I've been oodling over the beautiful things they've posted and wanting to stop in and check them out for a while. I finally made it in and there are so many beautiful things! This is a great stop for gift shopping. They carry unique gift items, locally made items like the coasters and pottery in the photo above (I bought a couple for a gift, but really want to keep them for myself!) and the amber necklaces from my favorite Amber Dreams Jewelry, recycled wine bottle candles, clothing, jewelry, and other eco-friendly items. They have items for kids and pets too! They're currently located on Atlantic Ave just before Central Park on the right (with the orange roof). They'll be moving to Centre St in January and I can't wait to see them in their new spot!

Shop Local Guide 2017 | Villa Villekulla Toy Store - Fernandina Beach, FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Villa Villekulla Toy Store - Fernandina Beach, FL

If toys are on your list of things to buy for the holidays, you really need to stop in this store. They have so many great quality toys and educational toys that you can't find in most stores. I discovered this store just last year during the Dickens on Centre event (which I highly recommend) and I'm so glad I did! From Hape,  Green Toys, and Tegu blocks for little ones, to MagnaTiles, Playmobil, and Mindware, there's something for every age. They have some really cool science kits and a variety of classic toys and games. Harry Potter fans will want to note that they have 3 different Harry Potter games in stock! And Crazy Aarons Thinking Putty is the perfect stocking stuffer for almost any age! I'll be heading back in to grab a snowball fight in a bucket, perfect for indoor snowball fights, or you know, snowball fights in Florida, haha! They are located on S 2nd Street in downtown Fernandina Beach.

Shop Local Guide 2017 | The Book Loft - Fernandina Beach, FLCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

The Book Loft - Fernandina Beach, FL

Ok, so there are two bookstores on my list, but I just had to include The Book Loft for those shopping in Fernandina! It's an amazing, old-school bookstore with a wide-selection for any age. There are places to sit and get lost in a book while you're there too! They also carry some of the best puzzles, Ravensburger puzzles, and Usborne & Kane Miller books (which I recently became a consultant for because the books are awesome and I want them all, haha!). There are books by local authors and I also discovered recently that they have used books upstairs. The store offers a Children's Hour, author signings and events, book launches, book club meetings, knitting groups, French classes, and a gallery of William Maurer's art. They are located on Centre St in downtown Fernandina Beach.

Whether you check out a few of my favorite local stores or a few of your favorites, I wish you the best of luck with your holiday shopping! If you have a favorite that I haven't listed, I'd love to hear about it so I can check them out!

In-Home Newborn Session | Baby's First Year Milestones | Kingsland GA Newborn Photographer http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/11/in-home-newborn-session-babys-first-year-milestones-kingsland-ga-newborn-photographer Welcoming our newest Baby Plan member to the blog! This sweet baby is a rainbow baby and we were able to use a special rainbow blanket made for him during his session. Other than that, we kept things simple and classic and since mom loves black and white, we did a lot of those too. It was a gloomy day outside but that didn't matter for this little guys in-home newborn session. Dad ended up having to go into work at the last minute so we focused on baby and made sure to get some with big brother and Mom too! Big brother was so sweet with his new baby brother, even though he avoided me for the first half of the session.  Mom and I were patient with him and didn't force him to get in front of the camera before he was ready. After he warmed up to me, we were able to get some really sweet photos of the two boys together. And I'm so glad we made sure to get Mom in a few shots too. This sweet baby is going to cherish those photographs when he's older <3. Here are a few of my favorites from the session.

I love getting those little details up close...

One of mom's favorites because it is "so him" with his tongue sticking out. My goal during a session is always to capture the essence of the people in the photos, not just capture a smiling face.  In-Home Newborn PortraitsCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Her birthday theme fits her perfectly, she is just as sweet as a peach and so is that smile! She had a good time trying to eat peaches and generally being adorable for her marsh-front first birthday session. She rocked her big bow and was sad when Mom took it off and asked for it back. Mom always finds the best little outfits and accessories to go with her kiddos' birthday themes. The peachy necklace with the second outfit was definitely my favorite. It's hard picking favorites to share of these adorable babies I've been photographing. I guess that's why albums have been my most popular product this year!  And albums are the perfect way to preserve those first year milestones and have a beautiful heirloom to look back through the first year as well as being able to pass it down to your little one when they're grown.  outdoor baby milestone sessionBaby's First Birthday Milestone Session | St Marys GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography outdoor baby milestone sessionBaby's First Birthday Milestone Session | St Marys GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography outdoor baby milestone sessionBaby's First Birthday Milestone Session | St Marys GACopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Jacksonville Beach Maternity Photography at the Pier http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/10/jacksonville-beach-maternity-photography-at-the-pier This beautiful momma decided to leave the family at home and have a maternity session with just her (and baby of course) to celebrate the beauty and miracle of her third baby. It's easy to get caught up in feeling uncomfortable and swollen and not very glamorous when you're nearing the end of your pregnancy. Taking an evening to yourself, having your hair and makeup done (or taking time to do it yourself), and wearing a beautiful maternity gown can help you feel the beauty of your body and how amazingly beautiful it is to grow another human being.

So we headed to the beach for a sunset session at the Jacksonville Beach Pier. Mom had a blast and rocked her session, feeling like a model. She's a beautiful person inside and out and I was honored to capture these photos for her and help her feel as gorgeous as she is. Here are a few of my favorites.

Lifestyle Family Photos | Award Winning Family Photographer | St Marys GA - Yulee FL http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/10/lifestyle-family-photos-award-winning-family-photographer-st-marys-ga---yulee-fl This little "wild one" recently celebrated his first birthday and we incorporated his birthday theme into his first birthday pictures by doing them in the woods! Mom and Dad has a few fun props to add to this little man's birthday theme and I'm always happy to include them. He was all about the leaves and couldn't understand why he wasn't allowed to eat them. He's too cute for words and had some of the best smiles for me that evening! I loved capturing the sweet moments in between the smiles too. I've known Mom and Dad since right around the time they got married and I was honored to capture their sweet little family celebrating Mr. L turning one!

Baby's First Year Milestone Session | Fernandina Beach FL Baby Photography http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/10/babys-first-year-milestone-session-fernandina-beach-fl-baby-photography For this little one's 9 month milestone session, we braved the beach. Which means sand, lots of sand, was everywhere! Haha! Miss K tried eating it of course and it didn't take long for her to be pretty much covered in it. We did an outfit change, which also was covered in sand immediately. Then we ditched the clothes and headed for the water and she was in her element. Not surprisingly, that's when the smiles came out! I made sure to get big brother and mom in a few too. Here are a few of my favorites.

Underwater Child Photography | Award Winning Child Photographer | Kingsland - St Marys GA http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/10/underwater-child-photography-award-winning-child-photographer-kingsland---st-marys-ga I have been photographing this sweet child since she was a baby and it's hard to believe she's eight! We always do something fun for her birthday photos and incorporate her birthday party/trip theme that she's chosen. This year, she wanted to go to SeaWorld. When Mom told me this and said she wasn't sure what we could do with that, I suggested we do an underwater session, which of course was perfect! Mom found a pool we could use and I was able to capture some fun images of Miss C swimming, jumping, and splashing in the water, her own "sea world". While this is likely my last pool session of the year, I'm looking forward to more next summer! Plus there's always the beach. I know my son will splash in the waves any time of the year!

Amelia Island Beach Vacation Photography | Family Photographer Fernandina Beach, FL http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/9/amelia-island-beach-vacation-photography-family-photographer-fernandina-beach-fl A visit to Amelia Island is the perfect time to get updated family photos. Ms. P thought so too so she surprised her son and his family with a fun family session on the beach while they came to visit this summer. I even convinced her to get in some of the photos too. I love including grandparents in photos!

The girls had a blast exploring and playing at the beach and I loved capturing all the fun they all had together as a family. These fun moments will be treasured by them for years to come and they have beautiful artwork to hang in their home. It was quite windy at the beach that day, but that didn't stop anyone from having a blast, as you can see from some of my favorites below.

Because of the wind we had at the beach that day, I scheduled to meet them again while they were still in town to try a few away from the beach where hair wouldn't be flying everywhere, just to be sure they had something they really loved to hang on their walls. Of course that day it decided to rain! It didn't stop us though, this awesome family just rolled with it and we ended up dancing in the rain for a few more family shots. They ended up loving the beach photos despite the windy hair, but had to get a rainy day print as well because it was so fun! These three were my favorite.   Amelia Island Rainy Day PhotographyCopyright Kimberly Tank Art & Photography

Here are a few words from Mom on their experience: "Kim is wonderful! She was so patient with our young girls and captured the most beautiful images of them just being themselves. Kim is easy to work with and really takes the time to compose her images. The final results went well beyond our expectations. Our beach shoot was particularly windy (hair everywhere!) so she offered to come back a few days later to take more photos off the beach so we got the perfect family shot. Isn't that amazing?! We cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Kim, and we highly recommend her to photographyour special moments too!"

Thank you V Family for allowing me to capture your memories!

Lifestyle Family Photography | St Marys Family & Child Photographer http://www.kimberlytank.com/blog/2017/9/lifestyle-family-photography-st-marys-family-child-photographer This summer, I took a trip up North with my family to visit family and friends in our hometowns. Our trip took us to the Cleveland, OH area and Chicago, IL area, with a stop in Nashville, TN on the way home. While in Cleveland, I was honored to photograph a good friend of mine (and college roommate) with her two beautiful little girls. I love celebrating motherhood and capturing images of moms and their children, and getting to do this for my beautiful, sweet friend made it even more special. The Cleveland area has an abundance of beautiful outdoor spaces throughout the Cleveland Metroparks and we settled on this spot along the Rocky River. We explored the riverbank, walked a few trails, and stopped to check out the flowers blooming. With little ones, it's usually best to keep them moving! Here are a few favorites from the session...
